So yeah, got shot of the blue RWD shell and replaced it with this, nice honest little car, not perfect by any means but good to start with

Needs an old repair cut out and done again properly for its MOT but let?s be honest, it?s me, it?ll probably never see the road again [emoji1787]

( edit ) I see the pictures are still not working ffs

sold it on, was going to take far too much work to put it right, this replaced the RWD shell, Matt Brown has it now and has basically had to redo every weld that was on it

So the boring bit, cleaning, the long engine had been rebuilt a few years ago but all the ancillaries and bolt on bits have been sitting in bins and buckets for 15 years at a guess, had the injectors sent away, cleaned and tested too

Can you not just send your engine parts for vapor/hydro blasting mate a place local to me do it for very little money. They come back better than from the factory

my plan for now is to do a “first build” get everything in and working, do all the alterations if needed, make sure it’s all good then strip it again to a complete bare shell to do all the bodywork and that’s when I’ll do the proper job of getting everything looking right.

also most of the stuff is hidden by the air box anyway

Dry builds are the way forward. Check out "Project Binky" on YouTube if you haven't already. Dry build and fabrication galore. [emoji1362]

Little bit done today, oil cooler sandwich plate removed and 8v baffle with fixed rubber gaskets used, those with a good eye will notice the scalloped crank, the bottom end is a 20XE so has the lighter crank and forged 86p pistons also pulled out the old 1.2, very happy with how little corrosion there is in the legs ! https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20210522/78474880e64e4320329aa5fd1a57209d.jpg

So, threw a new clutch kit at the engine, new crank sensor, dropped it in the nova. One thing I didn?t know, I had to have the gearbox mount bolted to the chassis before putting the engine and box in place or else I couldn?t get the mount bolt in place, other than that it was nice and easy to get in there https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20210710/1278e36bde786fa7f01dd7e9c3a2df97.jpg

Thanks mate, progress is slow on this because I am trying to get my mk3 Astra GSI back on the road, it has had a few previous owners that let a few too many things slide, I hate driving a car that has irritating problems lol https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20210711/e079de64020ec29482f52c42875d7805.jpg

Also why does Tapatalk change apostrophe to a question mark [emoji3480]Let's see if it works for me. It's a miracle! That's right! Apostrophes '''', they're everywhere!

*edit* it might be dependent on the keyboard settings/app you use. I'm using Microsoft Swiftkey and - as you can see - it works a treat.

Not done much to the nova since I had to steal its engine for the Astra, Astra had been massively over fuelling due to wrong injectors and FPR resulting in bore wash, scored bores and burning oil.

Always one step forward two steps back

And it?s back out again, oil leaking from the crank seal and end cap :-/

I suppose the good thing is that this is the engine I?ll be using in the nova so it gets all the problems sorted out now

Engine back in the Astra, the ally sump was cracked and warped to bought a new steel one, 8v baffle plate and 15mm long bolts
The block was split and needed a repair so that was done, all back in now and no oil leaks thankfully

Nice to see your still active on the forums Allan I'll be honest this is the first time I've had a proper look on here for a good while. I'll try to visit more often as reading through a projects thread is much better than Facebook posts, I didn't realise you'd had such a ball ache with the engines I knew you repaired the cracked block but didnt know you had the engines in then out then in and out again lol, I hope you get the astra out and have some enjoyment from it soon.

Facebook is ok but you can’t beat a good thread, so much you can learn in here too.

Yeah this thing has been fighting me all the way, need to take the fuel tank out again as the sender unit seal leaks so that’s not very helpful. Also going to 4 stud it and get its original wheels back on
