View Full Version : 1.0 nova, could i use nos?
Hello,
Ive got a 1.0L brown nova saloon which my grandma gave me because i couldnt afford to buy a car after i passed my test. I know its poo but i thought it would be funny if was well fast so i can race xr2's and stuff like that.
Has anybody ever put nos on a 1.0L before.
How long do you think my engne will last, its only doe 43,000miles with fsh.
Thanks
Lennie.

The simple answer to this question is yes, you could use a nitrous oxide system on your 1.0 litre engine but to be honest there isnt really much point!
You aren't going to break any world records and a full nos kit properly installed etc will cost you around ?650 for something decent which would be considerably less than buying a bigger engine and having it installed resulting in the same power gains.
NOS is not like its depicted in the movies like fast n furious - it gives an increase of between 25 and 100bhp depending on the injection jets used and most suppliers who are any good will only supply you with a 25bhp nozzle's to start with otherwise it's just not safe as you suddenly have too much power - especially in a 1.0 car. if they were to give you an extra 50bhp you'd be doubling the power of the car.
25bhp isnt very much on most engines but on a 1.0 it may increase teh wear on the engine and result ni your 48k miles engine being almost dead after only 60k instead of it lasting for years.
Wouldnt be worth the cost, buy a new engine.

which is a very simplified way of saying what i did

if u want it for shock factor, it would be better to drop in a 2ltr engine and leave ur car with all the one litre bages on it. This will surely give a few drivers a heart attack
Ive seen a site which tell me how to make a kit out of a old fire extinguisher and parts from maplin for about ?70.
That why i wanted t do it, coz its cheap innit.
U got the link to the site, thats gotta be a laugh like the home made turbo from a while back
No i havent got a link, i lost it but i printed it off.
I think it would work man if it did me nova would be propa bad ass innit.
it would probably blow up and cause a fire, which you couldnt put out cos you used the extinguisher to make your nos system,
I dunno geeza im gonna try and do it yeah.
It would be 8) .

you can make your own n.o.s kits - its not a piss take like on the turbo thing we all saw a while ago...
however you will have to be very careful about it because the chances of you getting everything spot on are slim, and injecting a combustion aid such as NO2 into the engine in uncontrolled circumstances - i wouldnt fancy it myself mate!
pmsl innit man yeh wickid, cheaper, ya man wickid booooooooooooo
psml
brown beast, when i was 17 i was going to get a C reg salooon :D

After a consultation with a technically minded person... we have come to the conclusion that you should check this website before proceeding.

A little light reading to consider before you start playing with NOS as though it's just something like a K&N Bolt-on.
If you want to have a good nitrous-oxide system experience there are some considerations you can make to increase the chances of coming away with a smile. Since a nitrous-oxide system relies on the fuel system, it is always best to be sure that your fuel system is at its peak efficiency. Factory fuel filters begin to degrade in performance as early as 10,000 miles. When installing a new nitrous-oxide system, it is recommended that you replace your factory fuel filter and be sure that the injectors are clean. The other area that you need to address is the vehicle's ignition system. A factory ignition system is designed to operate at near factory horsepower levels. A nitrous-oxide system can easily overcome the capabilities of a stock ignition system. Be sure that the spark plugs are new and that the ignition cables are in good condition. The cap and rotor should also be inspected on non-direct-ignition-system (non-DIS) cars. An ignition amplifier, high-performance ignition wires and spark plugs that are one heat range cooler (for applications over 50 hp). In the absence of an ignition amplifier, it's a good idea to tighten your spark plug gap by .010 to .005 in. This will make it easier for your ignition to generate a spark even in the high-horsepower range.
ROTFL @ Lennie
innit yeah mannnnnnnnnn wikid , nova saloooooon bad ass innittttttttttt

urm theres nothing wrong with a nova saloon so fcuk off :|
as for the plans - i cant see which kinda fire extinguisher would have COMBUSTABLE products inside ?!? as they are designed to fight fires not help them along
assuming you could somehow fill an extinguisher with nos gas and rig it to the engine the next problem would be fuel
u cant just guzzle in the nos and hope it all works - u need an extra fuel injector or summat similar or it will run extremley lean and melt a piston, or 4 :o
nitrogen oxide aint combustable!!!!!

not exactly but it aint gonna be in a fire extinguisher since when it breaks down under heat it releases oxygen
u spray NOS on a hot fire and it WILL act as an accellerant
i personall think it will go like a rocket, litterally. can picture it now.
a xr2 and a nova saloon at the lights. engines are reving to the max
BANG
there off. just like NASA. :| :| :|
Be realistic here mate. if you want to impress. use viagra!!!!!!!

didn't Mickey Owens have a guide somewhere for 1.0 "tuning"?

not as far as i am aware.
anyway, enough laughing and abuse - he asked a question and its been answered.
and locky - you are partly right - NO2 is not combustable, ie it will not burst into flames all by its self however if added to fire it acts as an accelerant and causes the fire to burn much quicker and much much hotter.
and i dont think he meant he was going to use a full fire extinguisher - i think he meant an emptied one filled with no2.
Its perfectly feasible to fit Nos to a std 1.0 engine. Its also perfectly possible to make your own - I already have the parts to make one and it doesnt cost ?650. It could be done for easily under ?200. CO2 extinguishers are perfectly adequate so long as they are cleaned out.
The main problem to overcome is the cost and availability of a solenoid capable of withstanding the high pressure that Nos is stored at. You may also need to uprate the fuel pump and you will need to fit a secondary regulator/fuel filter
So ner stop your laffing unless you know what you are on about :P

would a reputable shop really fill up a fire extinguisher with nitrous oxide?? somehow i doubt it
Hello chaps and chapettes!!!
I now have a badass nos'ed up nova!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Shamone motherfucker hee heee :P
I stole a fire extinguisher from mc donalds what is chrome its well bling when i was crusin about. it was well pukka coz i sprayed the foam all over my mates moped!!!!!!
I got some solonoids n stuff from maplin on saturday and some pipe from a diy shop!!!!!!
I also got a fat carb of a SR nova!!!!!!!
Anyway i got all me shit and have spent all yestoday and today fittin it.
I went for a rinse out earlier and its rapid as fuck!!!!!!!!
I raced a nissan 200sx what looked like a skyliner and i beat his jap crap ass.
Its phat, my mate works at a vet and filled me bottle up and i can get as much as i want for givin him beers!!!!!
Im well happy man my nova is phat up shit.................... shamone... 0X
have you declared it to your insurance mate? at end of the day, if you have an accident you'll get hung strung and quatered. also, i asked a few people (not experts) and they recon with such a small engine you'll end up recking the engine within 10k miles.
suppose you dont care when you can get the gas for free.
think you need to put the instructions on here for us all.
good luck hope you can afford the new tyres every 3 months lol

Me and my mate can think of only two words...
one of them is bull, the other one is shit.
right surly a 1.0l nova is 50 bhp u ad a 25bhp thats 75bhp it wud struggle 2 beat an sri
or have i got it completly wrong
Aragorn

mikey had a slightly tuned 1.0 and it kept snapping timing chains
with a 25bhp nos shot i think your gonna be doing more than snapping timing chains
the 1.0 aint THAT strong as to beable to handle 75bhp for any length of time :/
the OHC range maybe but not an ohv
and since when did maplin start selling 12v controlled high pressure GAS/liquid solenoids the ones listed on their webshite are standard mechanical solenoids not electrically operated valves so that bits crap too
Lol fook off back to the Ford/Golf/Pugwotever site you have come from
OK you got us all going
but it still wont mean youve got a big dick you weaner -
and dont come back on here arguing cos you'll just get kicked off
the only way a 1.0 nova, nitrus or not, could beat the nissan 200zx is in a rusting competition.
I think there should be a new 'shoe repairs' section on the site for the cobblers that some people put on here.
