The new law comes into force on the 1st Dec 2003.

It states that you can be prosecuted for not being in proper control of your car when using a mobile phone, even if stationary at traffic lights or in traffic jams.

Hands free carkits are permitted and can be used at all times when driving this is NOT breaking the law according to the government.

As i understood it hands free kits were made illegal too under the new regulations.

that's a relief, especially as my handsfree kit has finally arrived for my phone! lmao, I got one when I got the phone in December last year, but it was broken, so the shop said they would replace it. I never use them anyway, so kind of forgot about it. It arrived a couple of days ago with an appology letter.

my mate who is a copper has just bought a complete hands free kit which goes through his stereo speakers. He tells me that this will still be legal. not sure about the simple plug and play ones though. Should be ok i would have thought

The law at the moment doesnt say anywhere that the use of a mobile phone is illegal. Unless u are deemed to be not in control of ur vehicle.

When the new law comes into play on the 1st dec hands free kits will be legal pending on the officers discretion whther u are in control of ur vehicle or not.

However the use of mobile phones while driving is prohibited.

I strap mine to the steering wheel (5210) and if I get a call I turn the earpiece volume up and shout back.

here at halfords we're trying to cash in on the problem - 100 quid the hands free kits are! pro fitted of course- but not everyone's as good as me. had to practise on my nov - wish all cars are going to be as easy. it sucks. kit looks ugly, adds weight and 100 quid buys a lot of other things. some people will just have to have it thou. wheres it all goin'? fines for playing music whilst driving soon.

Hands free kits will not be illegal, unless talking to passengers becomes illegal.
