Quickly fit the silicone hoses after work, apart from the breather that goes to bottom of sfi but jll do that on Sunday.
Need to cut down the big hose from coolant tank to engine cause I don't have the right coolant pipe on the engine so have a slight kink in ithttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20210128/fd8f2bd09ad0d703028e191c07152bd5.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20210128/fd29c3924fb2818ff48458a24ca4839b.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20210128/73b3882e526e7c5691c200bea8076551.jpg

If it's an original plastic water pipe behind the head it's well worth replacing. Tx for a steel one.

Great work as always. I was eyeing this metal coolant pipe on Ebay earlier.

petrolhead19
31-01-21, 05:41 PM
Got the stainless tube on, filled it up with coolant and had some leaks lol
Inlet manifold had part of the old gasket on near the water jacket so wasn't sealing properly......DOH
Also the rubber seal on the thermostat wasn't seated properly......double DOH

Sorted them out fille did up again and success.....verrrry niiiice lol

So started her and let her get upto temp, the noise of the lifters went completely which I'm happy about, the temp gauge worked, the fan kicks in, so all in all I'm happy.

Just 1 slight things, my idle hunts a bit and when I rev it the revs come down slowly......any ideas?

Here's a link to video on FB.

Try cleaning out the icv with some cleaner and wd40 it after. Also check the throttle body for build up!

petrolhead19
31-01-21, 05:54 PM
I cleaned the throttle body when I built the engine so won't be that.
I'll give icv a clean next weekend see if that sorts it.

Picking up my passenger wing tomorrow so can get that on aslong as the paints alright, I'll have the dent pulled out by a paintless dent removal guy. So I'll be able to put bumper and grill on

Just need to bleed the brakes, get wheels refurbed new tyres and spray the side skirts then it's done

There's a vaccum port on the front of the inlet which has a banjo bolt and two coolant fittings on it, I can almost guarantee it'll be blocked and has been known to cause weird idle issues, best way to clean it is remove it, and poke some welding wire though it with some brake clean to flush out the crap or an airline. My corsa had the same issues and it was all down to that in the end. Just don't drill the hole out as It'll idle even worse haha

petrolhead19
01-02-21, 06:57 AM
I think you might be right lol
It was blocked and I tried to drill it out and snapped a bit in it.....lmfao
Put it back on to try so I am looking for another one of them bolts because I can't get the drill bit out.

Got the brakes bled today, the wife came and helped with that. Was surprised how easy they bled to be honest.
Filled up the gearbox oil too, got a little clunk sound when I release the clutch when engine is running, hoping this is nothing to worry about and just the release bearing resting back.
Got the passenger wing on, it need a respray but I'll get that done with it on the car so can be blended into door, so was able to fit the front bumper and grill and I now have an almost complete car lol.

I need an air filter now to finish the engine bay
The just need to respray skirts and get wheels done and she's ready for a test drive

Also gave her another quick fallout remover bath lol, not as much contaminants as last time so all good.https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20210207/c4692d058bbad211f6d8ebbe832bf6eb.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20210207/b56fe83fc423fa0cbea260e3ff6e2fbd.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20210207/eb58d87671fef3f01a5e6f3a063747a0.jpg

I put the wheels on yesterday after work to test it round the block, 1 of my wheel nuts won't tighten so think the thread is gone ill try a shorter bolt as I use longer ones for the spacers.
But I took it out and drives good goes through all the gears and stupid amount of power, the torque steer us stupid so want to try correct this a but.

Ideas in helping torque steer?

Cleaned the icv and sorted out that blocked breather bolt but still have a bit of an arratic idle when warm.
Also I have no hot air coming through the heaters tried bleeding the system and nothing so I'm stumped.

I levelled off the front suspension which has helped a bit with the torque steer

I've also not got 5th gear ffs, got reverse 1st 2nd 3rd and 4th but no 5th........so I've had enough for one day lol

I found out what the problem was with the fuel pump not working, the wire had come out where I had connected it haha so now have a working fuel pump rather than it running all the time on ignition.
Also got the arb fitted and drives loads better, dont have as much torque steer now.

Still have a problem with hunting idle, tried everything, going to borrow a brand new icv next weekend to eliminate that and if that's what it is I'll get one ordered.

Excuse the paint chop on the bumper, when I had it sprayed the guy didn't plastic prime it ffshttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20210221/025bd344bddd204a548f768a5b86fa43.jpg

Yeah it drives like a completely different car with it on.
Just unstable with it of, put the power down and it was all over the road.
Put It on and it's stiffer and drives loads better, the power delivery is alot smoother and doesn't pull the car to the sides as much

Been bashing my head trying to sort out the hunting idle, borrowed a brand new gm icv from Adam Beard put it on and idle was at 3k, fucked about trying to find any air leaks put new gasket on sfi box etc.
Then trued the tps moved it slightly so was in the middle and boom idles alright now, idling at 1k and revs clean doesn't hold revs just comes straight back down.

Only slightly hunts now if I have heaters on full and headlights on.

So looks like I need a new icv

Took the nova out for a test drive with my boy.
Drive alright just a few teething problems like I still don't have 5th gear and my heaters aren't blowing warm.

I also gave it a wash and on way back home I lost all gears haha, my clutch cable needed adjusting so quickly sorted that at side of the road and carried on.

This 5th gear and heater problem is doing my head in, I've tried adjusting gear selector a few times and tried bleeding the heater system, going to try jacking passenger side up as high as I can and try bleed againhttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20210313/1ae7d9b55c8595222b07bdddb3beae56.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20210313/e774b2c11f3a07c776b3101ee98136f3.jpg

Are all the pipes getting hot? All piped up correctly? Was the car originally a 4 speed if so you will need to cut the white block down on the gear lever as it will hit and wont let you get the stick far enough over to get 5th.

I sorted out the threaded hub with a helicoil so I now have 4 tight wheel bolts haha.
Also chopped off the lug on the gear stick so I can now get 5th but it's hit and miss, so I still need to do some adjusting, I'm thinking if I push the lever down and all the way to left when adjusting then it will give me the extra travel to get 5th.

Also took it for a test drive and its uncontrollable when you give it some, throws the car all over the road and just spins up.
Need to try work out how I'm going to stop this torque steerhttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20210328/7bbdef17c9e4abcc6e4cd29e809ab2bc.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20210328/38031f9d9d00807f01fb243c145c8c17.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20210328/f2561e2fa78ea3632b95914db7e0b777.jpg

Been a while since I updated.
I did get rid of the car lol raffled it as I needed to clear some money.
Anyway I bought it back a few weeks ago.

I did sort the 5th gear out before I got rid so thats done.
When I got it back I fit a different thermostat housing as the one on was cracked, also had the wheels refurbed and got brand new nankang ns2r tyres.
Got them on now but the fronts are stupidly close to the wings.....ffs
If I tried driving it then the wings would get ripped off.
I am running 10mm spacers as they use to rub on the coilovers with the 1.4 hubs. I'm wondering if they are sticking out so much due to now having 2l hubs on and wondering if I dont need the spacers now, I'm not sure if there is any size different between the hubs??

Going to try some things tomorrow, I'll try without spacers and see if it rubs the coilovers. If it does I'll see if I can remove the helper springs from coilovers so then might not need spacers as should clear the tyre.

Any more ideas? Apart from changing tyres as I cant be buying anymore. https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20210831/71dc87ca62398a7b58e5b0f82aff8500.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20210831/3d4b72b35d96f369c5937eaf712e0e00.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20210831/271a25b5ff747a49de61dd9e1c3f08ce.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20210831/a6e4ad4dca69fd160ef19281d287f7aa.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20210831/ecd124b5fbde20c60ad4b7f53b27aacb.jpg

Took her for a spin and only caught slightly once on full lock so all good.

Anyway I had her MOT done yesterday passed with flying colours, so now insured and taxed aswell.
Took her for a blast and she drives real nice, loads of power and isn't trying to throw me all over the road anymore with the new semi slick tyres on lol.

My aux belt did decide to shit itself though haha luckily I had one off my old engine that was same size

Also got an agreed valuation of ?12k and like for like replacement on parts which I'm happy about
