16" wheels

I have a set of 16"x7" kosei snipers. with a 195,45,16 tyre. I currently have the arch lips cut. The problem that i have is that the car is lowered -40mm with a sub box in the boot and when i put more than 1 person in the back the wheels rub any ideas i heard that if i get the wheels lathed to a 49MM offset they won't rub is this correct?
