Would have posted this in the detailing section, but seeing as the last post on there was 3 years ago I thought a general chat post would have better chance of a reply :)

Anyone any experience of how Nova bumpers and side trim react to the heat gun treatment? A few folk had rated it on the Detailing Thread but no before and after pictures from what I can find.

Are the side trims okay to use the heat gun on? Seem to be made of a strange material .

Any advice would be greatly appreciated

thanks :thumb:

I once did the old bumper on the front of my mk 1 but it appeared to leave it very patchy and was hard to get it uniform . Others might have had better results

thanks for the reply, really don't want to cause any unnecessary damage, at least they are uniformly grey just now!

Also don't have any way of gauging how dark they really should be. The trim on my mk2 golf's is definitely meant to black, but the novas a dark grey.

Anyone any ideas of what to hit them with? Folk saying AG Bumper care but I really don't think it will be potent enough for these bumpers

I did mine with a heat gun and came out mint. Trick is to not get it too hot then go over with a bumper gel.

cheers, did you use it on the stick on side trims too? Would be using the AG bumper care after it.:thumb:

No would of though it would end up peeling them away from the car with the heat.

yeah, they look pretty fragile as it is lol

will see how I get on with some bumper gel / products before I crack out the gun i think :thumb:

I used it, patchy and not as good as a very thin layer of oil (or if you are wearing protective gloves) burnt oil seems to last forever.

hopefully test some products on it tomorrow before using for the rest of the car. Think the heat gun is too much of a risk

I heat gunned my old snowplough and rear bumper, I thought it came up great compared to how faded they where, but did always go over it with bumper gel to give a better finish.
