belt direction

I have just put a new square toothed cambelt on my 1.3 with the arrows on the belt facing the same way as the old belt.
The arrows are anti-clockwise but I think the engine turns clockwise?

Does it really matter unless it is an old used belt that is being refitted as the teeth are square?

I have had conflicting advice so far.

Arrows face direction of rotation, failing tbat the writing should be written towards rotation

Thanks, I have never noticed arrows or thought of direction on a new cambelt before, something new everyday.

I have no idea what would happen if you fitted it backwards if I'm honest as I've never done it. But if they specify a direction it's probably for a good reason

Yes, I'll change it tomorrow. The one that was on the car was on this way so probably ok but might aswell change it round, better safe than sorry. Thanks
