View Full Version : Tachometer fault on white SRI clocks

Been having issues with this not picking up a signal from the coil. Checked all my wiring and even bypassed the wiring to a separate wire but still nothing. Cannot see any issues on the back of the clocks so decided to remove and inspect the tachometer itself.
Found this damage to the circuit board, could this be my problem?

It’s the blue thing if your not sure. Can anyone tell me what it is?

So have discovered it’s a resistor but have no way of knowing what rating it is.

Looks like it's burnt out.

Removed the circuit board and found it’s Burnt completely through into 2 bits

You need somone with a good one to measure the resistance with a multimeter. Or take a gamble measure the other one and hope theyre the same

Based on the colour code it's 10 somethingohms... The burnt out line is the multiplier which kinda kicks you in the balls.
It's not the same as the other blue one

Brown, black, ?, White/silver? I think the white/silver is the tolerance band? It doesn't really matter I don't think. The other colours the important one.

The question is why was it getting hot..you could be lucky and change it like for like, but it worries me its burnt up like that. What year is the car I will see if I can trace the resistance on the drawings...

Not sure if it was already like this when I got the clocks. It’s not something you see unless you take it apart. In terms of the plug to the back of the dash, this was removed when I bought the shell so had to buy a plug and re solder the new one on. The only thing I didn’t know was the 2 sets of black wires (wasn’t sure which one was what). Everything else works tho so it could have been already like it. Cars a 1993 merit+

I just wanted to bump this back again. I replaced this resistor with a 1ohm one, was trying to match as close as possible to the original. It works but it’s not the correct one. It seems more delayed and is definitely not giving the correct readings (saying it’s idling at 400 when it’s more like 1000)
I ordered a half ohm resistor but it’s tiny so will not be fitting that.
Has anyone got a set of clocks in bits where the resistors are visible on the Rev counter circuit board?
If the colour stripes can be seen I can match it to a website I’ve found.
