Surely this should be in technical, and why don't you just get a 1.4 and tune that insted of waisting the money on a 1.2

On mine all i've done is k&n bolt on filter, janspeed manifold and centre section with peco bb4 back box.

I was gonna put twin 40's on it as well but can't be bothered no more.

Apparently you can upgrade the cam to a 1.6 cam which is cheap then buying a piper cam kit and does the same. But there isn't to much you can do to them the best thing is too get a bigger lump to go in there.

wud b nice to have a 1200 screamer to keep up with the bigger engined cars, and piss over sum of em. thats y id very much like to keep the 1.2.

whats the highest (real) power figure you've seen from one?

look at the gains

1.0 45bhp
1.2i 45bhp
1.2 55bhp
1.4spi 60bhp
1.3 70bhp
1.4 72bhp
1.4mpi 82bhp
1.6i 100bhp

the 1.2 to 1.4mpi is 27bhp

1.4mpi to 1.6 mpi is 18bhp

now how well would a 1.2mpi go?

keep the pistons, and stick them in a rebored 1.3, this makes a high compression 1.4. then start tuning it.

Coincidentally have been to Velos today re: this. Some may remember that MC started out on this project which I have subsequently inherited.

Its finally at the stage where the serious work is starting. Shudnt be too long now. Hope to have it running and in some sort of vehicle by Christmas if it doesnt melt itself as soon as its started which is quite likley

hrm what i think ste was trying to put across was that the mpi engines are ALL 10bhp up on the carbed versions and nearly 20bhp up on the spi versions

so a mpi 1.2 could be putting out around 65bhp with relativly little work?

cylinder head will be the biggest issue - i had 15thou off a gsi head for my 1.4 but ive no idea what the compression is actually like

for a 1.2 u'd need even more off it

mine overfuels slightly - a 1.2 is prolly gonna overfuel a lot more so a mappable ecu will prolly be required

or a lambda probe equipped ecu like the GM-MultecM fitted to SRi's and late GSi's

i spoke to this engineer once who did aload and i mean loads of work to a 1.3sr and managed to get 130bhp out of it
