Hi,
Thought I should start a wee thread for my 86 Antibes.
Spotted it on ebay back in October, and being the same model, but in blue not grey, that my mum had when i was a kid, I had to buy it!

66k, all old mot's, original bill of sale and a few other bits and bobs.

When it arrived the brakes were seized solid so that was my 1st job. Narrowed down to the fronts only.

Wee car is pretty solid compared to the 92 Gsi I owned back in 2003!https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20180424/51c178d1474ec6fa0ef8cc31db04bb61.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20180424/9966f7346e6615bb5c4d95b0fd65bd56.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20180424/6b75cb1bb670b6aa480d324909ea869f.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20180424/ad29525257d81a461a5fd2bb2ead623e.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20180424/259b22ad47f8f36e94e2d6e8ee3de8c8.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20180424/9ea68f20f375d2129053619b98defbfc.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20180424/8d0c08002736c3edb10c03accd82c1ba.jpg

Might even have been the original discs and pads on it, GM stamped.

Sourced a Philips 752 for it also

Are you keeping original? No engine upgrade or brakes?

rickygolf83
26-04-18, 09:14 PM
Most likely. Get it up to a decent usable standard, enjoy it for a wee while and see what happens.

Got two mk2 golf gti's also, but had to buy this for the nostalgia factor!

She's not quick by any standard if my 1st drive in it yesterday is anything to go by!

But seems a very solid shell, only found a 50p size hole in the battery tray so far

Sounds good. Is it on the original arches? I would just lower it and nice set of wheels for now.

rickygolf83
26-04-18, 11:31 PM
Looks like it, no visible signs of welding or rough edges.

Amazing how rust free a lot of the nuts and bolts considering the age.

Spent its life until 2010 in the south of england which will have helped massively

Got a lowering kit on standby for once its passed an mot. Can't mind what make, but will be a 60mm drop on used shocks and springs.

That's my plan, a nod to the past.

Once its taxed and mot'd it will 1 of 7 on the road!

Had my fun in a rotten gsi back in the day! With the strut brace stopping the towers caving in!

Brand new 1b was on ebay. Got it for £70 delivered on a best offer.

Wee car is running well now.

Need to get the new yokos on it then down to my mates work for battery tray weld.

Wipers, heater and indicators&hazards not working and nothing obviously wrong.

Once these tasks are complete its mot timehttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20180531/cfa6f5c28d211198e5596aa00f8f328f.jpg

With the weather being back to normal rubbish up here i haven't been able to anything to the Antibes, but took the cover off just now to swap the offside headlight

Cover put back on soon after as its spitting with rain again :-(

The coating inside has flaked off and would most likely have failed mot on beam pattern.

Will be swapping the old indicator over next time i get a chance

New wheel cylinder on this morning and she passed!

Having had a fairly sunny morning, bizarrely got caught in a hail shower going down to the garage

Rear shocks are gubbed so looks like i'll be fitting the gmax springs and shocks that i have for ithttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20190402/9d33f9d2be6823def73050d6cf8e1ad3.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20190402/472a80866fadacb649edf40868d78ac6.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20190402/5e763dd893a6a334c010b0a473d6a9d7.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20190402/9f94e018817abe53f813d63c868a7f8c.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20190402/ae1ec2094184544063de8e877d1a4c11.jpg

Took the nova to work today, was an exciting drive [emoji4]

Gets down the road quite well but once on the motorway things livened up a bit lol

Flat out at 80, fair enough, but the thermostat must be jammed open as it began to over cool and I had to pull the choke out to keep it going [emoji23]

I knew the back shocks were pumped but as i left the erskine bridge there is a few tight turns to go into Glasgow which got my heart going a bit lol

Carb needs adjusted too as idling too high

Wee jobs to get on with next time i get a chance

Got a wave from a dude in an R plate 106 Rallye. He was loving life as was I at that point lolhttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20190409/45d16374151d3fb9e5cdf84fd7aa79e2.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20190409/d92519447857a98e1c8a3472a0923468.jpg

Rear seats out and washed, some carpet cleaned and an eternity of hoovering...

Still a long way to go inside and out. Stains on the heelpad could do with a stronger product on them.

Spotting on the door card looks to be something that has been splashed on it and damaged the vinyl. Hopefully not but is back after being wiped but will investigate further when i get a chance to spend some time on the nova again

Took the Nova to work today, dry weather guaranteed according to accuweather lol

Really enjoying driving the wee car, definitely not a performance nova but gets down the road well and keeps up with modern traffic no bother. But needs those shocks done, and i presume it runs cold due to a stuck thermostat but have read folk saying they dont get that warm?

Warm air through the vents so must get a bit warm lol

Had spied a chap with a mk3 cavalier on my way to work and he just happened to be further down the road as i was on my way home. Had to get some pics of it and the nova. Sad i know lol

No updates for a while. Virtually no use either. Not turned a wheel since end of september i think.

Always planned to sell this on eventually, but my mate questioned this logic by saying "when will you get another" "you'll probably never own one again" etc...

Love the car, but its pretty slow..... had a gsi back in the day as a car my folks didnt know i had. Best 1200 miles of my life. sold it on for a raise 2 months after buying. It lived its last with the lad i sold it too.

Love you K593 HSA [emoji1]

Question is; should i put bigger engine in it this? 80% most likely would be 1.8/20.8v cav engine. Exterior at a glance will remain oem. Most probably larger wheels, oem/period/retro etc... due to larger brakes. A bit of a drop too.

Let me know what you guys think either way. Always felt modding this would be a crime. Less than 8 on the road just now and this is pretty much as nature intended.

I wouldn't personally - sell it and buy one already done or buy a base spec and modify that. The Antibes is worth more as it is.

RichGold
17-02-20, 07:46 PM
I'm not sure what I'd advise you to do with it. Its a tidy looking Antibes and you probably wont see another.... but.....
You'd find it much more enjoyable to own and drive if you upgraded it wouldn't you?

So the question is are you keeping it or will you let it go sometime soon?

To put it in context, I've always wanted a tidy SR or GTE, but when it came to the crunch despite having the money to buy whatever I wanted I wouldn't have had the heart to rip apart/upgrade/change either one if I had bought one.
So I bought a 1.2 with GTE bumpers, etc, and set about building the car I wanted slowly. The engine swap starts in a couple of weeks after 2 years of ownership.
