engine cutting out when hot?

right my car is mk2 1.0, the engine runs fine until it heats up, just before the fan comes on then it just cuts off and wont start till its cool. ive tested the fan and it works, ive changed the thermstat and i aint losing water!anyone know what it cold be?

1.0 dont have an ecu

check the dsitrbuter, and points and condenser, and all the other dodgy eletrical stuff the 1.o litre has.
