Ok so think it's gotta be over 10 years since I was on here, miss my old nova so much, first car was a red mk1 sr, second was the same but met an untimely end.
Then I had a laser blue mk1 gte, spent loads of time and money on it, had it back from the body shop a week and it got written off... was ready for a redtop swap too!! Don't even have a pic of it finished.
Last nova was a 1.4sri that I did a redtop swap into and she flew!!

Probably going Saab turbo route at some point.
Exterior wise will loose rub strips, clean her up and lower her.
Wheels possibly bbs ra or cavalier exclusive with anthracite centres.
Interior I may leave stock as it's mint

a set of anthracite powder coated cav slabs, with all matching tyres on around 60% tread.
a spare pare of eagle f1s,
60mm lowering springs,
sparco strut brace,
set of 2.0 16v calipers with new pads and a pair of discs [emoji1][emoji1][emoji1][emoji1]

So little update.... bought another car as a donor.... it's a gte that's been butchered a bit! Arches are shagged and so are front wheels due to bad offset 17s, and for some reason the guy tried cutting/smoothing the gutters!!
But.... it's got a few bits I'm gonna use, a low milage early costcast XE from an Astra GTE, polished cam cover, power cap, all the bits for conversion like shafts, hubs etc, stainless exhaust, oh and a zex dry nitrous set up.....
Also has bits I'll sell like shocks with lowering springs, 17" lensos with good tyres, rear disc beam and calipers, gte front brakes, clocks, strut brace, will also sell panels and shell as I'd imagine the shell being gte and having v5 would be worth something to someone.....

New chairs, will either dye the blue bits black, trim them in the new golf gti red/grey/black check, or pull the merit seats apart and trim using that.

Gte shell has gone, and selling the shell covered cost of whole doner car, still have boot, bumpers, Wheels, front brakes dash, front doorcards, clocks and few other bits to sell, and I'll be using the alarm, engine/box etc and nos kit... happy chap

Yes mate, some models have a smaller rad, which mine had so no good for XE conversion, but these ones fit any model, only £100 delivered off eBay too not sure if original fan fits it though

Also decided I wasn’t going to risk alternator clearance despite it clearing on the car it came out of....
So out with the blowtorch and big calibrator

Aim is to get this done this week/weekend, get the front end back on some wheels so I can turn her round, then bring the engine back home and drop it in.
Then it should be a case of wiring/plumbing it all in, fit the gte tank and get her on the road...... if only it was that easy

Little update today but a significant one....

Bushes pressed into lower arms and tie bar mounts, all bolted together with ball joints, used existing as they’re fine!

And as of 9pm this eve the car is back on all 4 Wheels on the ground ready to turn round..... which means I can jack up the rear and swap the fuel tank over and rear shocks....
but more importantly get the XE dropped in!!!

Not hanging about now, it was meant to be done for Bromley Pageant in June 🤣[emoji23]🤣 finally gathering pace getting stuff done, life seemed to get in the way.

I have all the intention of the engine coming out next October, but I’m under no illusions it probably won’t 🤣[emoji23]

Very happy today, manifold to go on and sort fitting of exhaust.
Al hoses etc to go on, fuel lines to sort, oil change and remove sandwich plate for the old oil cooler, wire it up and get her started

Stopping from cold was really bad, also seemed to get brake fade when upto temp which I have never had with any other road set up.

Removed the dampener and cut the fuel pump bracket down, it’s now in bits ready to be blasted and painted.

Fuel lines and hoses fitted.
Mini loom made and fed into car, through the old choke cable hole, fuel pump wired up. Main ecu loom run into the car through brake pedal blank.
New earth strap fitted, headlights back in and wired up, but changing the fixings this week.

So the engine is wired up fully.
Fitted new donut along with AFM, intake pipe and cone filter.
Refitted AFPR.

So tried starting the car yesterday, knackered fuel pump [emoji36][emoji36][emoji36]
And a leaky fuel hose which has now been replaced.
New pump ordered.
Also found a leak between servo and master cyl when trying to bleed the brakes so that’s all coming off today.

What was leaking from the master? The vaccum or fluid

Brakes all fixed, split the master cyl from the servo, the end rubber washer in the master cyl was sat properly so removed it,gave it a clean and also cleaned the groove in master cyl and put it all back together, all bled and no leaks!!

Filled the gearbox with oil, getting the level plug out isn’t easy on an F20 in a Nova, the rear mount and spacer are in the way, had to remove bottom 19mm bolt, loosen the top one and push the mount spacer out of the way, box now filled with nice new oil.

New pump arrived so fitted that, fitted new battery (Euros had a 55% off offer [emoji16])
Turned key, car cranked but wouldn’t fire.
Dropped the rear off the axel stands so it would be easier to pull fuel through (I only put a fivers in it)... cranked again but nothing.
Pressed the valve on the fuel rail and it just gave a hiss of air, so I bridged the pump relay so the pump ran, and the held the fuel rail valve open, could hear the hiss and the pump note changed, second later some fuel spat from the valve.
Removed the relay bridge and cranked it again and she fired first crank [emoji1362][emoji1362][emoji1362]

So in a great mood this eve!!

Next step is torque up CVs, sort the exhaust, fill with coolant , get it to temp and change the oil.
Then it’s MOT time.

Today I knocked off work a bit early and had a bash at a temporary exhaust.
Stainless system I have is in 3 parts, front section is way too long to match the XE manifold, so I used the crappy front pipe from the donor car, cut it down and fitted a bit of flexi between this and the mid part of the stainless system.
It’s going to knock like mad but it’ll get it through an MOT and down the road to powerflow where I had my last one made, so he can cut the manifold and fab up a proper piece to mate the manifold and stainless system to fit properly.

Also mounted the ECU under the parcel tray on passenger side so it’s secure and up out of the way/out of sight.

Taken for her MOT today.... nervous drive there as I bloody built it, goes and stops fine, and as expected exhaust knocks, blows and vibrates like a goodun!!

But..... She passed without a single advisory!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Had her some beans on the way home, spluttered a few times, hopefully just crap fuel running through.
And clutch needs adjusting as needs pushing right to the carpet to disengage.

As a little reward for passing her MOT I fitted the new clocks so I can see how she’s revving.

Well I Changed the dizzy cap as it was alittle worn but doubt it was that. The thing I think it was is I had a fuel return coming off the vapour separator back to the tank (standard set up from the Sr) I just blanked the return and put the fuel line straight from the pump to carb.May have not been feeding the carb enough fuel. Seems to be doing ok for now, short trips currently but first run to work tomorrow!!

Also as a base model it had no fag lighter socket, with car shows etc planned I would need a way to charge my phone for the sat nav etc, so I ordered a twin usb one off of eBay, fitted that today once I’d popped the centre panel out to find the wiring

Had a bit of time this eve so finished my rear Lights, stripped the tint of the test one, sanded down the lettering and re-applied the red film.

Turns out the running issue isn’t sorted [emoji36]
Hesitates and splutters at low revs, flat out or higher up the rev range it’s all fine.

Got the exhaust sorted today at least, guy at Powerflow bromley did a banging job, just need to get this issue sorted and I’ll be happy!

Cheers guys, I’m hoping it’s fuel related so will be checking the fuel pressure soon as I have the gauge, and also new filter on order, before I fit that i plan on pulling the hose off the outlet end of the filter and runnnin the pump to pull the fuel through the filter a few times to see if it pulls more crap out.

I’m convinced it wasn’t doing it prior to the mot so think it’s where it was running for so long and then driven home fuel got low as only started doing it half way back I think

Spluttering all sorted, set fuel pressure back to 2.5 at idle with vacuum hose off, cleaned ICV, ran fuel through the filter and emptied a few times and then stuck new filter on.
All sorted!

Steering wheel was wonky to the right, boss off, put back on, now it sits to the left [emoji849][emoji849]

Choke light wired up to ECU wires too.


Just need to get the tracking done and swap the wheels over ready for BHP show

Finally got a cage, it’s a rollcentre one..... plan on adding a removable diagonal or Xbrace then having it powder coated, thinking silver/grey or red

So we moved house start of August and the car now has it’s own home finally.

Fitted a early SFI box to replace the power cap

Went to my mates garage to replace CV joints and give the car a once over on the ramp, found out the source of the metal on metal noise I was getting, the CV was pushed against the hub carrier, (wrong cv and no spacer), had worn a groove in the hub carrier!
So new CVs, knocked of the ABS rings and fitted a spacer each side, new bearings etc and it feels faster now too!!!

Re fitted stock rear lights and will be fitting the amber side repeaters again, along with the 1.2 Merit badges but on magnets so I can remove them too.

Fitted it and took her out, transforms the car!

Got chatting to my mate about the mod to remove the throttle body wedge.... somehow the conversation ended with me agreeing to take his full Jenvey set up with emerald ecu off his hands.

Also agreed to buy another mates newman cams as he is also going LET.

So.... over the winter I’ll be locked in the garage fitting the LSD, cams, throttle bodies, then deciding if I stay sleeper with the interior how it is or partially stripping the interior, fitting the 6 point cage, buckets and harnesses.

Also decide whether to run the trooper scoop to feed the bodies or not.....

And should I paint the wheels grey to match the bumpers???
