Could someone out there answer this question, are all the blocks the same in Nova's, for example can you bore a 1.4 block to 1.6 or a 1.6 to 1.8 or even a 1.4 to 1.8 they are known as the small block engine, I guess cranks, rods and pistons and heads have there differences to change swept volumes and compression. Im about to rebuild my 1.6 GSI and thinking of taking it to 1.8
Any info or experience on this would be most welcome.
Cheers Nick

1.4 can bore out up to 1.8

I think I will keep it simple and bore the 1.6 block +60 (if I can find the pistons) some head work bigger inlet valves and a hotter cam, not sure what to go for yet.

Hello from Norway😷🔫
I striped a c16se engine before i left work today to see if there where any posibility to bore the block up to 1,8 but that clearly do not work. The std pistone is 79mm. And to bore all the way up to 1,8 and skipping stroking the crankshaft you ned a pistone diameter of 87 or something.. the sylinderwall is very thin.

Kent ast2 cam, I'd not bother with anything else

I think that cam is for a 1.3, Kent site recommend a number of cams but for a 1.6 injection NVO62 do you have any experience of running the AST2 on a 1.6

Ignore the Kent site, the ast2 is perfect from a standard 1.2 all the way to a 150bhp 1600 on t40's build, plusnits wonderfully driveable. Basically it should have been the standard can in the small block 8v lol

On wich dyno is it good for 150 Bhp? :)
I have AST18, what is much bigger, 40/32,5mm race valves, 40mm ITB, 1800 ccm, ported head, and many more things, and have just 154 bhp. Maybe on that dyno will it be 180 :)
NVO62 is good option for 1.6 or stroker 1.8, gives big torque on the full range on the street.

Smallblock 1.8 is just 80,5mm bore.

Yea the 16valve is 80.5
But the 8valve 1,8l is not a smalblokk. So it is different rodlenght

on many dynos lol some were much higher on happy rollers.
i think the issue you have is while throttle bodies are great, they just don't suit the old 8v engine... or maybe they need choking down to 34mm as per the t40 chokes (spelling).
the ast2 can pull from less than 30mph to 125mph in 5th along with being just a general pleasure to drive. I've driven a piper bp300 in a near identically spec engine and it was peaky and not hugely pleasant to dive other than balls out.

getting to 1800 isn't just about a reborn, the crank and rods come in to play there too. But for an easy life if you want to stay 8v just get a small block 1800 and put the 8v head on it.... but then you are binning a good 16v head lol
a 1650 bottom end will see our happy for 90% of the time, and once bored you can get a let as an example unless heavily modded won't tickle you much more than the small block
