Hey lads looking into a C20LET block and head for a turbo conversion on my nova and just putting a feeler out at what people would price them at?? Please move thread to appropriate title if not in correct place :thumb:
Scraps not that high at the mo, so about 15 /20 a ton

Ive been watching lets for months ive seen full used conversions incl box & loom ecu ect roughly 1000-1200
rebuilt bare long engine from 900-2000 or 2500++ with dry sumps tbs race engines 35000+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
Heads I'm sure are the same as xe but you change 1 cam for the upgrade on the let
You can use the xe block & do the oil return mod & use the z20 modded oil pick up & use let pistons & rods
How big is your wallet lol ;)

Not very big at the moment ;) lol lol lol I'm looking to build one been offered a decent block and head for my astra mk4 hella quad lamps and my vibe space 3000w active sub, I'm guessing the chap is convinced it's worth £400-£450'ish for the block then, would that be about the right price for a block and head or is it way off the scales on price and in fact cheaper for a LET block and head, what's a coscast head worth and what's the difference between coscast and normal?? :thumb:

400 quid isn't too bad but once you start.........new shells, decent head gasket, rings oil pump, water, pump, belt kit ect ect lol
coscast was designed by cosworth (early heads) then gm done them & had probs going porus (gm head has a core plug on the side) there are other differences but
that's the easiest way to tell. gm head can be easily fixed though.

So the block and head is worth more then a fair swap on my hella quad lamps and 3000w sub mate? He's also throwing in a throttle body, inlet manifold and other bits and bobs that he can find to help benefit me in the build seems like a really nice guy in my opinion, will defo be a guy I'd recommend for C20XE/LET parts for those in favour of needing bits? :)

Just buy a complete motor if your after a standard let by the time you build a motor you could have bought 2. Id only advise buying parts if your building a high end motor
350-550 depending on condition

Its definantly not going to be an over night build mate that's for sure it's definantly going to atleast take 6-12 months before it's anywhere close to being half built up as moneys tight this year so it will be a slow and steady build :thumb:

What wear and tear shall I look out for in order to get a good deal Will? Do you know the standard bore sizes for the piston chambers mate? :)

Thanks bud is there any other better ways of measuring the current bores other then a tape measure?? lol lol
Telescopic bore gauges and external micrometer is best
Then you can check for ovality using a dial bore gauge

thanks mate are much appreciated plan is as I don't have mega bucks to throw at it I want to keep everything simple by keeping standard and eventually adding upgrades as and when time and money is right, for now she can run standard boost :)

What andy says or failing that just take it to a machine shop n have it honed and checked for size just had mine done for 30 quid .

Thats a price that cannot be frowned upon, will hopefully be collecting block and head this Sunday so chances being will take block with me to local engineering company I know and have him work his magic on the bores, with second hand decent C20LET Pistons will you have to do the run in procedure same as buying everything brand new to run everything in for 500 miles? Sorry guys abit of a newbie here first time building a C20LET with a friend :thumb:
I've heard many people say you should run engines in and I did once.
the rest iv blasted off the limiter the first race back out.Obviously it's impossible for me to run in as I'd be coming last every race for about 2 seasons before I hit 500miles lol
Was the ran in engine any better? It was neither better nor worse.
A bloke I know has lambretta engines built by a bloke who swears by thrashing them then turning off and leaving to cool down for a few rides, this making it bed in better he says.
Do what you want to do as it's your engine and money.

I think for simple reasons and simplicity of saving money first money first time around I will use mineral oil which I read on a good thread from houses itb'd nova that helps bedding pistons in so even with second hand sourced parts I shall do the run in procedure as same as all new bits would be ran in, what's easiest for run in procedures would a rolling road be easiest for running in or driving it sensibly be better?

The pistons wont matter its the rings you are supposed to run in . however as stated its impossible to do this with a race motor . i think it just helps the life of the motor for road use .
I rebuild every season anyway so aslong asa they do that I'm pleased lol

Still learning at the moment lol lol will be my first time rebuilding an engine ever lol we got to start somewhere I suppose and will be a learning curve, most things I can manage but engine components and engine rebuilding is a whole different ball game to me as I will find out, let's just hope my pockets are as deep as I think lol lol lol

One day ill track my nova.. eventually when I'm not afraid of binning it on the first corner lol lol
