What's the differences between a mk1 merit dash and a mk1 gte dash

There are side vents on the gte dash 6 dial clocks aswell. Pretty sure they are same color could be wrong.

Cool no worries. I was trying to fit gte clocks into my mk1 dash an having a bit of bother to get them in the space. Was wondering if where the clocks go in the gte dash is a bigger space than in the merit

No exactly the same size hole so should fit straight in

I've had to wedge it in. Seems to be extremely tight and doesn't go right the way in

Checked your dash ain't damaged out of shape?

I couldn't get the top to go first due to the steering wheel, should I take this out the way. Dash is mint so I know that's fine. I'll play about today. I take it it will just sit in the hole like the original clocks did

You don't have to remove the steering wheel but its easier if you do. If its hard to push the clocks back open the bonnet and gently pull the speedo cable into the engine bay and then try pushing the clocks in a bit further.

Helps to remove the upper cowling aswell.

No worries ill try the cable before removing the steering wheel. I don't think there is an upper cowling is there, the dash is in one piece by the look of it

The steering wheel cowling splits top and bottom.

Ah sorry thought you were on about the dash. I've no cowling round the wheel at the moment, car was fully stripped and only the steering column, wheel and dash in place

Normally the speedo cable stops them going in, bare in mind you need to move the speedo cable from the centre behind the has to the left of the dash bracing behind the clock set as the speedo Is offset on a 6dial/4dial clock set. To remove I feed speedo cable through the grommet in the engine bay so this actually pushed on the clocks and makes unvliping the cable easier, it also makes fitting it easier. Then for installation I'll pull it back into the engine bay until the clocks at tight in the dash, tilt and click them into place then just give a nice bit of slac either side so the cable isn't bent to an angle behind the clocks

Cool stuff. Main thing I know now is that the hole is the aame so no need to change the dash! I'll look see what side I've got the Speedo cable but I'm pretty sure I have moved it. Thanks for all the help folks

remember to sort out the EML by connecting it to the choke light... & more importantly, make sure you sort the rev counter wire.. the later mk1's already have the green wire in the loom..

I've done the rev counter but what will I have to do for the eml? Car running carbs if that helps

If your running carbs you wont have an eml
