After stripping my sr c20let due to rot:cry: Iam using most of the parts on my merit to make a mint nova. The car was my daily until last week! I've took her off the road to sort bodywork and I've managed to sorce a e16se which iam rebuilding. Plans are to repair rear arches bits on front panel fit sr bumpers. This will be a slow going project due to not much time available.
Also parts to be fitted off the sr will be:
Rear window surrounds
Wrap around spoiler
Maybe gte skirts don't know yet.
Sr glass all round! Ect.

Here is a few pics of car and where Iam at:

Anyways I cracked on welding up the front lower panel welded some plates in behind and finished with the outer plate. Buzzed down welds and a skim of filler. Heres some pics.

With regards to the welding all I can say is practice slot and get used to the setting on your welder, the wire speed is very important, if you can feel it pushing the Lance away from what your welding turn it down, also it's hard to describe the sound when you get a good weld, but youll know it when you hear it. Also take your time and when butt welding move to different areas of the panel your welding to avoid warping.
Also make sure you have a decent size argon shield gas bottle, the little ones are useless.
Nick

Yep got a decent size bottle just getting use to welding. It takes time lol.

If it car pannels you are welding pal try and spot them rather than a full weld as said move around the pannel often . Im a plater welder and work for one of europes biggest fabrication companys and still struggle with cars sometimes due the material thickness . Rust and seam sealer ect so dont worry if it takes a while to learn.

Know what you mean does take time and patience will have a play with the settings on the welder thanks for your help.

Keep up the good work! What thickness of grinder cutting discs do you use? 3mm is standard thickness but u can get 1mm or 0.8 I think. The thinner the better as it cuts quicker and so much easier to control.

Dilemma just moved the nova and exhaust is blowing on main front section just had a look and it's the original gm exhaust system lol. Also cambelt needs changing and pump as leaking coolant and belt has gone slack. Would you fix this engine or fit the e16se lump now. Reason asking what you would do in this situation lol. Was gonna sort bodywork 1st then do the engine swap. I know it ain't hard doing the cambelt and exhaust!

Won't cost much or take too long to fix the engine so I would get it going personally.

Disaster today was grinding up rear panel repairs and a stray spark must of ignited in the boot setting car on fire. It's burnt rear light and loom and headlining up the pillar. Shat myself ain't the word. I quickly put it out. Also quarter got damaged too just when I finished it. Propper pissed off. Here's some pics.
http://i726.photobucket.com/albums/ww264/ashleyc17/Mobile%20Uploads/20170505_143100_zpsakqgo38e.jpg (http://s726.photobucket.com/user/ashleyc17/media/Mobile%20Uploads/20170505_143100_zpsakqgo38e.jpg.html)

After calling it a day and nearly giving up on it and selling the lot I took it on the chin and went back out to see the extent of the damage. Went it garage and got a new light bolted on and re skimmed the quarter. All I need to do is join in a new bit of loom and sort the headlining.

I remember being underneath my mk2 escort welding a plate in with oxy acc and the rear seat caught alight.....I nearly lost the whole thing! Luckily I moved like never before and chucked a large bucket of water in the area. Few more seconds and it would have been fire brigade job...to dampen down the remains.....
frightening though it is you've just got to put it behind you.
