C20xe gearbox f16

Hi recently bought a nova with the conversion already done, just wondering if anyone can tell me why when I go from 4th to 5th I have to push the gear knob down like as if I was going into reverse?
apprently it's got a f16 gearbox in it

Sounds like the linkage isn't lined up properly
