what ize sub is best?

Personally i think 12,

All depends on the sub & the box type.

Bandpass box will give very low bass, but not much spl.

A std. sealed box will give tight responsive bass (ideal for most trance music)

A ported box is an in between, fairly tight bass with loud low bass, but....

If the ported box is too large, it will sound boomy.
If the ported box is too small, it will have the sealed box effect.

Alternatively, you could go for a 12" bass tube, great all round.
Look for Eminence, Bazooka, JBL. The yank stuff is best.
