This is what i am doing to my 1800 head. To give you an idea. Very similar thing, i am fitting bodies to mine.

How much you can take off the head depends on your piston to valve clearance and compression ratio.

This is the 3rd time ive tried to reply to this today ????

Cheers buddy just what I was looking for you've done what what I was thinking of doing !!!!

I didn't explain what I was after very well (ooops) im not skimming the head yet I just wanted to know how much I could butcher the ports lol

I want my standard engine running on tbs first & I will mess about mapping it then I will build a nice engine over the winter :d

Is there any other parts from other Vaux engine variation's that will be better for tunning the x16xe engine ie pistons heads cams cranks ect ect

Cheers Kev

aha, dont go grinding loads of material out the ports. You'll likely have to take a reasonable amount out the top to match it to your manifold though. It does look big, just open the outer face and blend it back down in to the standard port shape.

The best gains are found on the short side radius so check there, dont grind it back loads, just make sure it has a nice radius thats smooth.

there isnt really anything 'standard' that'll be better than what you have. I am not so familiar with the 1600's in regards to cams and what duration and lift you can go to on stock pistons.
