Been looking at these for a bit but can't find a decent one lol. I know they have a few issues ie valve stems turbos ect. Anyone own one or had one? Opinions appreciated :thumb:

The issues they have is most were owned by dickheads who brayed the bollocks off them and never maintained them

other than turbo and stem seals and odd sensor they are a good car, the F23 gearbox is good and causes little trouble compared to the m32 6 speed box, if you are on facebook check out the page z20let lovers. the GSI is getting rarer by the month as so many are been broken for parts.

i have a forged z20let astra coupe with a ko6 and running about 320 bhp.

Yeh heard the f23 box is good compared to the troublesome m32. Iam on the look out for a good one suppose will have a long wait lol. Cheers for the advice.

Crap engines

Unreliable
Cheap tat
Full of common faults
Standard turbocharger couldn't blow out a candle
Intercooler might as well not be there
Boost solenoids fall to bits
Stem seals are crap
Oil feeds block up

But I loved mine when it worked lol

I've heard all different oil to use some people use 5w30 some say 10w40, a lot of people have recently said they use 10w60

I think the most important factor is that you only use fully synthetic oil. People rate these engines so much but no one wants to tell you how temperamental they are is not serviced properly

Oh dear... Where do I start???

First of all, you need to make sure the service schedule is reasonably up to date, if in doubt, replace it...

Mine has had some issues since I've owned it.. Namely, do NOT buy someone elses project. I found out the hard way that there are certain tuners out there, that do not mix with the Z20LET engine... I'm loath to name names, however, seeing as they don't have the issues with the engines that are usually found on here, you need to avoid regal autosport, based in southampton, they have mixed reviews, namely... They make engines go bang. I had a map, running 302bhp (with printout), was lovely at first, leaving things in the dust etc, then as I came to billing a couple of years ago, piston 4 pretty much melted. Burgo will be able to verify this, as he and a few others tried to help me out with a few bits. I ended up changing the engine... Spent a few more bits on the engine and now she is running sweet as a nut.. Just needs a new clutch and then she's ready for mapping again!
