Hi guys, ive currently got a nova saloon having a full spaceframe fitted running mx5 subframes. Im going to be running a 2.0 8v rwd. What is the best way to get some more power out of it?

Ive done a fair share of searching and all you get is loads of people saying just fit a let or the xe or even running nitrous. I don't want to use any of that and i want to keep it n/a.Obviously it will be having a full rebuild! So really im just wondering what i can expect roughly from a set up like this? What have others been able to get out of these? Money isnt a issue either. Also is there anything else i can do to it?
Running bike carbs
Custom inlet
Race cam
Solid lifters
Bigger valves
A fair bit of head work, port and polish, head skim
Rebore
Deck the block if it can
High compression forged pistons pocketed if need be
Steel rods
Centre line bore the crank
New shells
Uprated oil pump

Im not expecting huge amount of gains. I've had a lot of experience with the 1.3 8v's so i know roughly what can be done. Just want any other info i can get on the 2.0 and what can be done really. Any help is great!

Before anyone says to use the search button, i have and between different forums you always get a bit of contradiction.

Have you looked into turboing it?

My mate has a turbo kit for the 8v,got the loom & some sort of custom ice cam (not ice cream lol) says the cam is nearly square
I'm trying to get this off him he recons they had about 220 horses out it, not sure if id spend the sort of cash your looking to spend
on an engine that no-one really wants any more & if you want to sell it once its not quick enough for you any more you will get peanuts
back for it when a well sorted xe or let engine will sell all day long for good money.....

I only want his turbo kit cause I know its there and I have an 8v sitting in my shed in bits & it will cheap to rebuild it & when it
goes bang which it will lol I haven't chucked away thousands.

I will get some more info on turbo-ing it from him if you want.

Cheers Kev

For oval racing, a turbo isnt really needed, by time you get up to about 7500 rpm your coming off the throttle going into a corner. Im not worried about any resale as it will be getting refreshed after every season. There will always be something i can use it for! I can send you over some pics of what its like at the moment, body work int quiet finished yet!

That's a mental project mate very cool !!! Not much missing from your tuning list if your not turbo-ing it,
throttle body's all the way & omex 600 or similar what gearbox & diff you planning to use ;)

Will be mated to a mazda rx8 box, and will be having a rx8 diff fitted in the mx5 rear subframe.

would it not be easier to run the mx5's 1.8 twin cam ?

... no installation issues to the mx5 frame or gearbox, and probably has more power out the box than the 8v ?

Probably would have been easier, but already had the 2.0. Conversion plate and a couple of custom mounts will be fine :)

steel crank, dry sump, light flywheel and fuel injection. I wouldnt mess around with bike carbs if I was you.
