View Full Version : C20xe crank pulley lightening
I'm currently building up a c20xe for my nova, I was just wondering what the benefits of machining the double crank pulley to a single slot are, I can easily get the outer slot milled off but is it worthwhile?

They normally fail if you machine them down, Better off just buying a single V alloy one.
People only remove it because it runs the power steering which isn't there any more.

when you say fail .. do you mean explode ?

Is there much benefit in running a single one?

No nothing that serious, they just split apart from the rubber bushing.
As Craig says, why pay to machine, you can buy a single ally one.
Benefit of single V is clearance against the chassis leg.
As said buy an alloy one, they can twist and get upset with a reduced amount of rubber holding them together. You lose the harmonic dampening properties but not the end of the world.

I can get it machined for free

its a single piece of metal tho isnt it ? .. i cowboy'd one years ago using an angle grinder, i never saw any rubber on it, unless theres various different types of 20xe pulley
It's an inner and outer piece held by rubber yes. Maybe you had an odd 8v one or something
