View Full Version : Is this ok to do? Engine mount
Right had an issue on my new shell where the front engine mount on the chassis has been dropped,
so I've had to fit the mount on top of the bracket rather than under it like is

will this be ok or am I better off trying to find the mount I need ?
cheers Joe
Just buy the proper mount mate. 20 ish quid second hand!
I don't know what mount it is I need, that is the 20xe conversion mount I've got on it,
if you look the mount has been chopped off the shell and welded lower,
in in my old shell I bought the f28 conversion mount but in this shell is been adapted to use the standard mount that comes on the cav/calibra aswell
heres the gearbox side

and here's it bolted in as it should but the engines on the piss

to get the engine level I've had to put the mount on the top of the bracket on the chassis, but then it hits on the bonnet with isn't a biggie as its fibreglass and I can cut the strengthing bit out where it hits

stick a spacer plate between the gearbox mount and body, with some longer bolts to suit, to drop it down however much it needs, to level it out. 20mm-ish ?
I did try that jimbob with washers but it didn't go much lower cause of the rear engine mount, going to change the rear mount and see if that makes any difference
might leave the engine as it is a little higher will give me some much needed ground clearance. And I might not have to space the tie bars so much with the f28
Has it been lowered to take a big block using a standard Nova OS mount?

youll prob have to disconnect the rear mount first, to get it level on the gearbox side, then you can adjust or spacer plate the rear one to suit the new layout :thumb:
upto you how you wanna do it tho, your call.

This
I haven't got a nova mount here to try at the moment I don't think,
I have one for sale if you are interested pal.
Don't think the standard mount would be up to the job would it can you show a pic of it I may have one thinking about it in the garage,
but the main question is will the mount be ok as it is?
I cant see it being any different being on top than under personally
I don't have a picture at the minute.
It should be okay though. Only thing is it isn't caged the same way if that makes sense.
I believe the cage is only so it's strong when welded on its not as if the mount moves in the cage and my solid mount is smaller than the cage
Has it not been lowered to use the astra gte original alloy mount?
