So I bought this car back in may 2014 with the hope of rebuilding it for my 17th birthday (which didn't happen btw). The car was pretty much just a bare shell when I got it. I soon found out that I was being a bit ambitious as I had never even taken a wheel off of a car before starting this project. So armed with all my gear I decided I was going to learn how to paint the car which didn't work out and the paint job was as rough as a junkies carpet, but back then I thought that it was brilliant and just built the car back up. So in September 2015 I took the car to be moted which it failed misribly. A week after I took the car back after working through my fail list which was like 15 things long and included welding. I got the car home from its mot and put it round the back of the garage and forgot about it until I booked my test and had a month till I sat it, I then started working on all of the paint and decided this time to rattle can it which didn't work out. After failing my test I left it again and eventually got another test which I passed. The nova was no where near ready for the road though and tbh it was an absolute death trap so I went out and bought my self a bright yellow vw lupo just as a runabout. So I decided last week that I was going to start stripping the nova and rebuilding it properly this time and that I was going to get it the way I wanted it to begin with. Photos to follow! :thumb:

Welcome to the club, spraying a car is not easy but can be done at home if your really patient. Want are your plans with the car?

Think you might need a few more posts before you can post pics, I look forward to seeing them.
Nick.

Cheers mate, Yeah I found that out but I just want the car to be a clean weekend car. I have plans for putting a bigger engine into it aswell but I have a 1200 that's been rebuilt sitting there. I have the pictures from when I originally got it and also have the pictures from before I stripped it to start again and ones of it just now. Will hopefully get a chance to do some more work over the weekend and if funds allow me I will start to order some new parts.

Hi. What did it all fail on at the mot?

sco77ishbiker

it failed its mot for the following:-
001 Service brake efficiency below requirements
002 Brakes imbalanced across an axle
003 Headlight aim beam image obviously incorrect (offside)
004 Headlight aim beam image obviously incorrect (nearside)
005 windscreen wiper does not clear the windscreen effectively (offside)
006 exhaust system not adequately supported
007 tyre incorrect because different size tyres are fitted on the same axle (nearside rear)
008 tyre has a cut in excess of the requirements deep enough to reach the ply or chords (nearside rear)
009 seat belt anchorage prescribed area is excessively corroded offside (outer sill area)
010 Fuel pipe insecure
011 Fuel pipe insecure (fuel filter insecure)
012 Rear brake recording little or no effort (offside)

Most of the things that it failed on were stupid things that I got sorted the same day but I had to get a new rear brake cylinder and I got 4 new tyres

A big list but very small problems :thumb:

Yeah you really could easily do all that your self, it's mostly fiddly little things and won't cost the earth to fix. Best thingbto do is get the car in the air and strip the fuel lines, rear beam and brake lines and renew the lot and paint things up if need be.

Things like the headlight beam just ask the mot station to line them up for you.

Any rust you just have to search for and repair as best you can.

All of the things were repaired really roughly so that it would pass which it did a week later but now the cat is torn down to nearly a bare shell again so that I can get it all done properly

You've made some good progress on this, I'm sure you'll be over the moon once you get to drive it.

Aye cheers it's taken a while but I wish I had done it properly the first time instead of doing it all over again. I am absolutely buzzing to drive it, I had a shot of my mates one a wee while ago and it was great fun!

Made a good wee bit of progress on this today! The inside is fully ready to be painted and I made a few alterations to the fuel lines as they were hanging down loosely I also did some more preperation to the outside. Does anyone know the best way to strip back paint as the roof is proving to be a nightmare because there is that many different layers of paint?

Had a half day at college today so I have managed to strip near enough all the paint off the roof

Hopefully will have the car in primer by the end of the week as that was the last major bit that I had to finish :-)

As usual nothing went to plan and I ran into a previous bodged repair which took me 2 days to sort! The rear quarter panel had been replaced and the person who did it absolutely covered it in filler so all of that came off the damage assessed and then a skim of filler using a fraction of the amount that was on there to begin with. So finally sorted that and now it's all ready to be painted which I will do tomorrow afternoon
