Right well here's the story of when I reshelled my let nova, some may know some may not but I've never been happy with my shell as its had a sunroof, so as this shell came up for sale and it already had the cage in I wanted I thought I'd purchase it.

So so today I made the journey to Poole to pick up this.

My plans are to swap the engine out of my current nova and put it in this. Will get some more pics and plans tomorrow when I've got the pc on.

looks like I've gone wide arch aswell

Looks like a good starting point..

I like the wide arches!

Be interesting to see this take one shape.. :thumb:

Are you planning a wide track kit to suit or going to do it with wheel offset?

i have a wide arch kit to go on mine, but i am going wide track with a kit from superfwd.

Interested to see how this comes along.

Will you have to get in dukes of hazard style?

im going to be getting wheels to fill the arches got the size in mind and offset just got to see what's about now,

edd yes it certainly looks that way the cage is a piece of art thou, that's all I wanted it for everything else was a bonus,

yea benn it's very much a project for the summer, hopefully get it looking right and it turns out to be a beast,

colour wise now I'm thinking merlin purple and the darker royal blue as secondary colour, for cage and running gear.

going to get a welder next week and then I can start the corsa b servo and may go epas aswell, although that might ruin the nova so undecided on epas

Merlin purple is a great idea... :thumb:

Reminds me of the Simtek F1 cars from 94 & 95....

If you are just going for zero offset or similar wheels, go for the epas for sure, will make it much easier to turn. Got to think about the scrub radius.

Scrub radius? As in where it hits the chassis?

ive been umming and arhhing about epas really, it's main use is a track car so I won't be parking it so to speak,

quafie quick rack and epas may be a winner thou, will see how I feel about it if I can find some decent wheels, everything I've seen seems to be et15, and I don't think I'll have the cash for new for a while

This should be good, I'm loving the wide arches. Looks like the same cage that's in my car too.

Yea bazza it's the full custom cages t45 cage, and it's not going to be anywhere near as nice as the work that's gone into yours, would love to tub my rear arches but I think I'm just going to put turrets in as its already had the cage put into it,

just a shame who ever fitted the cage drilled holes in the roof to weld the cage up rather than dropping it through the floor to give the room,

oh well, been looking for a fibreglass roof but I can't see me finding one, so I'll have to steel top it instead,

admiitaly I prefer standard arches but they came with the shell and the work they've done to the rears, extending the tubs out it would be a shame to get rid so they are staying

The point on the tyre, that it 'twists on' when steered. Google is the best thing.

I will be running a quaife quick rack and epas.

Scrub radius seems complicated for me at this time in the morning,

hopefully get some more pics later, trying to find some standard let mounts which is proving more difficult than conversion mounts at this moment in time

Nice t45 as well, helps keep weight down a bit. If you're Looking for turrets I got mine for like £70 from Motorsport tools.
shame about the roof sure it could be patched up ok though?

Plug

I wasn't aware you could by turrets off the shelf, that's good news, I recall an old member on here used to make them or he would have stt, but he's not been on here in a while now,

you have used these haven't you? "Group 4 Escort Round Turrets mk1 mk2 grp4 rally works"
I do have a roof for it to replace just waiting for it to be collected as its up north, my panal guy said he'll try and repair the roof 1st thou but then I've got a spare skin if it gets ruined with removal aswell.

Yeah that's the ones there mate. If it were me I'd do that, try and repair it then you have a spare if need be :)

Thing is the cage is sat up against the holes they've cut in the roof as they've drilled them so they could weld the cage,

just had a hunt through photobucket and I should in theory have a f28 front mount from when I bought my f28 but that was probably 10 years ago now give or take a couple years,

ive work on the nova in two garages in that time so finding it is going to be the problem,

cheers for the heads up bazza will order some of the turrets payday

I wouldn't fit a F28 again. Infact i'm thinking of going back to a F20.

Plug
11-04-16, 01:12 PM
And whys that then benn?

I had 3 different f20's in the original let before I went f28 and to of them decided to spit cogs through the box

ill be sticking with an f28 just need to get a decent diff for it

Benn

1. Weight,
B. You dont save anything in rev terms in 6th. In 6th at 70mph is about 3.7k rpm. In 5th (on a F20) 70mph is about 3.6-7K rpm too..
3. Can't get bits for them, when you can they are mega money,
D. I think they are more fragile than a F20.
4. The price, you can by 30 F20's for the same price as a semi good F28.

F. Just me here, but i don't think they drive as nice as a F20.
6. I'd build a spec'd up F20, which i'm looking at at the mo. Think Cable change and F18 5th gear cog, to really lower the revs in 5th.

H. Wanna by my re build F28 with Quaife diff? ;)

Plug

My box is in perfect condition buddy and I need to buy bits but if I had the spare cash I would, decided on getting a plate diff now.

Oh right I like the fact of having 6 gears in a nova lol. And I didn't have much luck with f20's in the past

well I got it back and set about stripping the epas, brake pedal and servo and the rack aswell as it'll save me £100-£150 for a quick rack,

so so here's cars all lined up

one thing mind if anyone asks you to remove a steering rack with engine in and it's on a trailer tell them to kindy jog on, what a pita of a job that was, squeezing the rack out from behind the engine and I couldn't get underneath it cause of the trailer !!

well got everything off that I need here's the epas setup

Right well today I set about swapping my coilovers from my old car over to the new shell,

got all the front on and shafts in just to make sure there is enough room and the engines positioned on.

put the rack in loads more room in a nova with a 2l in than there was taking the one out of the corsa with a 1.2 lol

Couldnt resist throwing the bumper on again to see how much room I'll have for the intercooler

looks more like a car now,

well i had a little trouble also, I've got some camber adjuster bolts for the front but got abit stuck with them
there's are what I've got

they look like they are to big to me ?

i guess I'll have to notch the shock out so they fit?

http://i706.photobucket.com/albums/ww64/gsi_jimbo/3F35920B-3C8D-482E-85FA-AABE016EC98A.jpg (http://s706.photobucket.com/user/gsi_jimbo/media/3F35920B-3C8D-482E-85FA-AABE016EC98A.jpg.html)

well I just bolted every thing up as it was for the minute, everything will be getting cleaned up and painted this is just a trial fit making sure everything is how it should be.

well I also cut the bonnet where it was catching on the engine as I'm happy with the position of it

Right well haven't done a lot to this as my l200 needs a new engine which is putting a stop to progress on the nova as I need a welder and the money I had for one has gone on a new l200 engine now,

seeing as I had some free time today I managed to remove the rest of the seat brackets that was left and the standard one that runs the width of the car.
also removed the rest of the gearstick as I'm going internal shifter.

happy I've not found any rust yet, although I'm not the best when it comes to drilling out spot welds!

glad I removed the seat bar now seeing just how much shot was left under there after blasting. Which was done previous.

Nothing wrong with the old shell it's a minter aswel bar the work that I've done to the front panel but it held up with the let for a few track days

just the old shell had a sunroof and this already had the cage welded in

Already started but it's gone past odd patches. Where the rear beam mounts to the chassis has gone.

How come you've fitted the engine and everything with out giving it some paint? The bulk head looks like surface rust all over it...
Love the spec of the shell too.

Most right hand bracket, what's that for?

The most right had bracket is what holds the coloum in the Corsa, which I've chopped to fit into the nova temp, need to get a seat and position every thing correctly,

havent painted anything as this is a dry run so to speak, get everything as it needs to be so I'm not going to be cutting and welding a freshly painted shell, needed to make sure the engine went it, and I need to drill the holes for the internal shifter now.

getting a welder, bucket seat and fixing bars, maybe some rear turrets and the roof there isn't a lot to do tbh. Then it will be with my body work guy, whilst I clean and paint all the parts ready to go back onto it.

the surface rust so to speak is only the blast media ontop of the primer starting to rust
