Anyone into RC cars? I've just bought one and it's great, can't be bothered to fix the Nova anymore lol

any sensible suggestions for offroad buggy type things.
I had an HPI Savage which was great fun but I'm assuming electric is the way to go these days etc, and it rolling when cornering was mildly irritating

I have cars and boats. :) Tried the nitros, but the electric is my way. Now the new one is Kyosho Inferno 1:8 Buggy, with 6S. :)

Nitro is only good if you have somewhere open where no one will moan at you about the noise!

Electric for me as well although I'm part of the committee for the local Touring car club. I've been racing for about 20 years now (god that makes me sound and feel OLD!).
Here is a short video from the start of the B Final a few weeks ago, Yellow, Black and White car is mine starting 2nd. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LnHvDcFi-mY

I'll dig out some pictures of my Touring cars, think it totals 4 1/10th Touring, 1 Tamiya M05 and for fun an Associated T3 truck.

Current Touring car, a VBC Wildfire D06, running a Dodge Dart shell in Power Maxed livery.

And with my M05 Tamiya Mini with Volvo C30 Shell

Driven hard both of them. Mini is good fun, we had setup class rules that only certain motors and tyres were allowed, resulting in good close racing.

I picked up this second hand at the weekend, it's a HPI E Firestorm Flux, waterproof electrics and brushless motor. Goes well on 2S batteries, 3S must be insane. Would recommend it Stuart. Did consider an Associated T4 but believe they're a little bit outdated now?

Broke it within 24 hours and just fitted a new spur gear and front shock mount, fail.

Hooked, just trying to not spend too much money on them lol

3S would be good, but 6S would be better, only issue then is that you'll need a bigger ESC to take the current. What motor are you running in that Iain?

Iain
07-04-16, 01:06 PM
It's all standard, HPI MMH-4000, 4000kv motor. HPI EMH-2S ESC which can take up to 3S.

I've got a losi nitro eight, used to race it but it's died out down here like everything else in the south west.

and I blew the engine up and didn't want to fork out £300 to replace it, lol

That's not being a full on Geek.....

4000Kv, what does that work out in "turns" ie 10.5, 4.5 etc?

Iain

Apparently no kv/turn mapping or correlation so dunno! It's a nice speed.

NovalutionGSi
08-04-16, 12:38 PM
Lower the number the faster it goes! I know a couple of the lads up the club have Stampedes running 4.5 and 3s or 4s, kept breaking drive shafts!

Ive got an HPI WR8.
The WR8 with 3S battery and 19T pinion does 60.3mph on the GPS speed monitor. Even belted slick race tyres struggle for traction.

I thought with LiPo/brushless it was the higher the kv number the faster it goes as its effectively rpm/volt so 10k rpm/volt is faster than 5k rpm/volt... Could be wrong lol

Ian, that beetle looks epic, would love to tear up the beaches with something like that

Got one of them as well but after restoring it a few years ago I am scared to abuse it now so mostly sits on the shelf, doesn't take abuse as well as the Blitzer.

Also have a Hornet, Clod Buster, TA02 Pre-Runner and M01 Mini Cooper (all vintage 80's /90's)

Just sold a couple of others to fund the upgrades on the Blitzer. I only got back in to it recently becuase my nephew wanted me to start taking him out with his Lunchbox.

Ah yeah I know what you mean. You can buy a Re-release Monster Beetle now but they never improved any of the weak bits like the gearbox so you still can't really make them quick and by all accounts some of the detailing has been lost on the body.

Little vid of the Blitzer running

You are right Stuart, higher rpm the faster it will go, however getting a motor with a lower turn number should give a higher rpm.
I'm used to brushed motors, so sometimes come out with brushed motor terms.

With lipos it's the burst you have to look at. Running 2s in the touring car I have a mix of burst levels. Some being 30c, the crappy ones, the good ones have a burst of up to 130c. The difference can be as much a 2 or 3 laps on track. Or a few amps in power wise.

Stuart
09-04-16, 09:38 AM
The c thing is great. We were looking at that for making a real electric car lol some have a lower 1c output, but can burst crazy levels (and charge crazy fast too)

hmm, need to look at buggies now, damn you all

When I was on the jov stand, used to run on the road. Had a mini drag race with its full sized counterpart!

This year I think I'll be taking my T3, I know a few of the guys on the VxDC stand will have their Tamiya lunchboxes out to play so will go for a run with them. Plus they have a massive mound on the stand too. Great for jumps!

I only smashed mine up a couple of times racing and had it fixed on the day normally, as people had spares or I did at the track,

I had a 1:5 King Motors 002 thing a couple of years back. An HPi Baja copy.
They are decent enough, when fitted with a few hop-up's (old RC term!).

I still bent the chassis like a banana, from jumping it on a BMX track, mind.
