Nova gear shift question

My current shifter has been cut down slightly but I don't quite know how much. Can anyone tell me how long the gear shifter is from the top grip for the knob to the first bit of nylon towards the bottom?
Also does this give any real advantage to gear changing or just for show?

just looks better, it'd make the throw longer as your loosing leverage on it too, don't have the measurements unfortunately though is I run cable.

Shorter throw, quicker shift, and probably feels a bit more direct

If its not been shortened to the point its uncomfortable or difficult then no harm
