My sierra has been kind enough to give me another reason to hate it, the head gasket has blown and im sure it's to do with when a rad hose split and it got boiling hot as it's always drunk coolant since. So its gonna need a skim at the least. Now should I bite the bullet and repair the zetec in there witch is on about 140000 now or go for a later St zetec witch is a much better design? Only reason I ask is because I could spend about 100 doing the head gasket or 300 on the engine but I'm not sure what route to go at the moment as the St engine will leave me immobile unless I can get my corsa b motd as my nova is engineless. But a head gasket will be done in a few days but then is it worth spending out on an engine of that age? Seeing as I want to boost it in the future anyway? Let me know what you guys think? I would bang a k seal in but it's miss firing too so probably blow between 2 cylinders. Cheers

You need to insert a new tampon and change the gasket.

If you reckon it's worth doing, Im just pulling my hair as to weather it's worth spending that money on a round the world engine

Fix the head gasket, and get it back in the road and you can upgrade the engine at a later date and sell your current zetec

the original zetecs were good reliable engines from what ive noticed.
ive owned a 1.4 myself, which only needed the ignition coil replacing, in the 18 months i had it. never missed a beat.

2 people i know had a 1.6 and a 1.8 too, and they both got thrashed a fair bit, one of them got zero maintenance, not even an oil change during its 2 year ownership.
the 2.0 is just as reliable from what ive heard.

if it ran well beforehand, i dont see any problem with fixing it. its probably just split the gasket.
a double oil and coolant flush is probably worth it, to clean any gunk out, and obviously check the mating faces, for flatness. :thumb:
