Not posted in a while hope everyone's well.
Just wondering what can be removed from a saloon metal wise
Have people removed the rear seat supports etc. Just needing to know what sort weight everyone had them down to. I need to be aimimg for 800kg with a 3.2 v6.
Anything non structural
then ask yourself how safe do you want to be in the event of an impact

Would the rear seat framework be classed as structural?
It will be a 1/4 mile car with a cage.

You say it needs to be 800kg, is that just what you'd like or some sort of racing requirement? I'd have thought with a 3.2 v6 you wouldn't really need to worry too much about a few kilos of metal work and having a bit of extra weight might be of use for stability, especially near the back. I'd be more worried about stripping weight from the front to balance out the additonal weight of the V6, one of those complete fibreglass front ends on ebay perhaps.

800kgs is the minimum weight for na fwd drag series.
Its not something im entering just a few mates to go against with saab turbo corsas. Were just trying to build the cars to there rules.
Don't bother I took loads of weight out of mine and fibreglassed everything just made me hate it more and didn't gain me any more time your not in that league with it mate. Only benefits all out drag cars it's light enough already.

Thing is scott il never sell it and its been sat on my drive for a couple of years now.
Im not bothered about it being on the road i just want to make use of it.
Weight distribution would be more important than shaving out a few kgs here or there IMO. As for the rear seat backing, if you had a decent cage I reckon you could afford to lose it.
I reckon you'd be hard pushed to get a V6 to 800kgs though. Are there any stripped out LETs at that weight? As I'm sure I remember reckoning the turbo engine being similar weight to the V6.
[edit] Do bear in mind the torque of the V6, I don't think mine would have lasted so long if it hadn't been stitched and plated up front - even just revving it when jacked up it kept trying to jump off them lol So removing too much metal might make things a bit bendy

Mark lightened most of what can be done on a loon here:

However, you can remove hidden stuff like seatbelt mount strengtheners, seat cross member & rails, door striker strengthener
That's what I'm removing anyway, have a look at the shell and think "what's that bit actually doing?" all of a sudden there's a lot that can go (if you've a decent cage)
has anyone removed the metal panel from behind the dash (what is this part called?)
obvoiously leave the bracket for the steering collum but what about the rest of it to the left
