First update of 2017 and I thought I would do something a bit different. The light was against me and I just quickly did this on my phone but here are a couple of moving updates:
https://goo.gl/photos/stY69e5Agc7tdvaX8
https://goo.gl/photos/bt2jzwQXsZ44CvFo7
Still a lot to do, especially as I have booked it in to have the decals fitted on 31/3/17 and also want to get it MOT'd and tuned that same week. I have made a list of things left to do so I can keep track on things but a few areas are being held up by missing or damaged bits or due to having some more stuff plated:
Fit gutter trims
Make and fit n/s rear brake line
Fit handbrake cable clip (plated)
Secure blower motor (nuts plated)
Fit front wiper motor, arms and blades (mounts plated)
Fit plastic bulkhead cover and block
Fit under bonnet foam pieces
Fit starter motor
Fit alternator and belt
Fit distributor and HT leads/surpressors/lead retaining clip
Finish loom, fit battery and earth/live wiring
Fit and adjust gear selector
Fit clutch cable
Fit speedo cable
Replace front pinch bolts
Fit brake pad clips
Torque front hubs and fit split pins
Fill engine/gearbox oil, coolant and washer fluid
Rebuild and fit servo/pipe & master cylinder/reservoir
Fill and bleed brakes
Fit o/s front door plastic, cards and handles
Fit o/s rear quarter card
Fit arch trims
Insert pins in to grab handle!
Fit o/s sill trim
Finish fitting dash I switches and clocks
Fit runners, fittings and seats

Thank you. To be honest it broke me today putting the exhaust on on my drive. I nearly posted it for sale as it was a bugger to get on the centre mount and I fell out good and proper with C67!!!

Sitrep. Been busy marketing my TVR as I think it's time for a change - fancy a Monaro so clearly a GM convert! Also been sorting my wife's car so lost a few weekends car shopping. Nice Fabia vRS replacing her errrrrrrr Fabia vRS!
According to my to do list, there are 26 jobs to do, 4 of which are "filling" something. Decals booked for 31st March....

Not sure I'd be trading a TVR for a Monaro, but if you're bored and have an itch to scratch then I guess you have to.

No itch as such. Just not using the TVR so thought I would get something a lot cheaper and something I am more likely to use. A few others on the list but the Monaro is a lot of bang for buck.

So we managed to sort the last bits of the wiring loom on Saturday including getting the alternator and starter connected. After nervously adding 3 gallons of BP Ultimate and a new Vauxhall battery, we got to the point of being able to crank it over. It cranked straight away, soon built up oil pressure and shortly afterwards, the engine I hadn't heard for 25 years fired in to life.
Video to follow....

That's a major milestone reached right there, that list of things left to do much be getting very short now.

So as promised, here is a bit of Saturday for you.
We spent about an hour finishing off the loom - alternator, starter motor, oil pressure, battery and temperature sender wiring. I then set up a camera to video events as they unfolded. We then pulled out the plugs and cranked it for about a minute until the oil pressure was up - I can add that video later but its not exciting!
We then put the plugs back in, connected the coil and HT leads and did a quick check before....
https://goo.gl/photos/2Phm3EZLqBrdnN4RA
So, after about 1hrs and 15mins in total on Saturday afternoon (albeit about 20 years since the original engine last run) it was running again.
Happy day.
48 hours later sort of all good moods ruined when the fuel pipe came off the bottom of the tank and dumped over 10l of BP Ultimate on my garage floor!

The main "to do" list is now in single figures! So, still left before MOT, sticker fitting and tune up:
One short rear brake line to make & fit
Fill & bleed brakes
Finish fitting the choke cable - just need to shorten to fit the 40s
Fit new LED bulbs to the main clocks then connect the speedo cable
Fit passenger seat and finish fitting the rear seats - just need to be lined up properly
Not imperative but fit the two bits of foam under the bonnet where it meets the bulkhead
Its March next week so better get a move on!

So, tonight's updates and jobs done:
Choke cable shortened and installed
Instrument pod fitted after some new bulbs
Speedo cable installed
The two foam bits that go on the bonnet edge where it meets the bulkhead are now in place
So, this project is so very near to not being a project, just needing:
N/S rear short brake line making (we ran out of kunifer so left this pending an offcut appearing ;-) )
Fill and bleed brakes
Fit the passenger seat - Mr Novasport very kindly dismantled, rebuilt and fitted my drivers seat in about an hour yesterday after finding a broken part in the base
Finish off the rear seat fit - adjustment and clips
Just leaving decals (booked for 31/3/17), MOT and rolling road set up both of which I hope to get done before the decals. I have a list of things to do in the future so I am sure this thread will have more to show.
Thanks for reading so far and I really appreciate the kind comments. I have never done anything like this before and at times its been tough. I hope people who get to see the car in 2017 will remember this has been a novice doing a complete restoration and rebuild with limited facilities. I have made some great friends along the way and I am forever grateful.

Not posted much recently as been busy and yes, the TVR has gone and been replaced by a Monaro. Really enjoying that one and the noise is just the best I have had a car make!
The Sport did its first show at Tatton and made the 100 mile round trip pretty trouble free. Its still not running 100% but that requires the carbs to come off and either be stripped and rebuilt or replaced. I have another set of genuine Sport ones away being refurbished so probably a swap over after summer. I also need to sort a servo out as I have a borrowed one on at the moment that has lets call it patina.
I did fit its new alloys over the weekend but haven't actually driven it since.
Yes it did get wet:

Now I have to admit to liking the steels and trims, mainly because they are how I remember it from 1990-1992. However, these alloys just seem to tone it down nicely...
Liking the wheels on the sport. They give it a modern twist :)

So when does a project stop being a project? C67 has now done just over 400 pretty much trouble free miles, including a trip to Tatton and its "debut" at VBOA. There are a few niggles but nothing major that detract from it being great to drive.
With coilovers as well as poly bushes, there are a few "squeaks" from the suspension but I suspect this is just the bushes as nothing is loose. The flat spot between 2000-2500 isn't as noticeable now as you tend to drive around it - it revs so sweetly up to 7000rpm that I am contemplating a rev limiter. The new gearbox with the 4.29 final drive seems a good match for the engine as well - cruising back up the M1 from VBOA was fine. My youngest daughter remains shocked that it doesn't have aircon or a radio so I wind the windows down a lot!!
So what next? Well the carbs are now off again as I have another genuine set that have been rebuilt and the carb man is coming on Friday to fit and set them up. Hopefully, this will cure the idling problems once and for all. I also have a servo away being refurbished so that will be swapped when it comes back. I also have a few plans for the interior to freshen it up a little more - I have been stockpiling a few bits of seats and fabric so hopefully it will look a bit better inside. I have also bought a new Quaife ATB diff although I am in two minds about fitting this. I want to see if it actually feels like it needs it once the carbs are swapped and the engine properly set up.
I will keep updates going but I think it will be over a longer period of time. The full rebuild took 18 months which was pretty good going for a first timer in his home garage! :-)

Thanks for that Sam - yes, just used a tiny bit of normal thinners. We used the Schutz gun without thinners for the more textured areas and then the gravity gun with a little bit of thinners over the rest. The more visible areas such as under the arches then got a blow over with body paint as the Raptor doesn't quite have the same sheen:

So I thought it was only polite to give an update! You may recall I mentioned I had a 2nd set of Sport carbs to go on - well they did at the end of July and the car is LOADS better. It has only had a static setup and it is on the competition jet settings. I may have also been a bit OTT and gone up to 30mm chokes but if need be I will change it back to the 28mm. It goes in for a rolling road session at the end of October but I managed to get around 70 miles of driving on a nice day in summer and its night n day better.
As part of my "winter project" I also got another servo fully refurbished and put that on last week. Here are a couple of pics with the new carbs and servo on:
http://thumbsnap.com/i/20cGr17V.jpg
http://thumbsnap.com/i/yMpRXhpy.jpg
Got a few more bits to do over winter - I am going to replace the bonnet decal as its not quite right which is a shame as its nicely fitted. Also got a couple of trim bits to replace for slightly better ones.
Roll on 2018 for more driving time than this year!

Think you saw my FB video Ben but the best run was run 5 at 97bhp which I got on video but not the screenshot:

https://photos.app.goo.gl/CvE0deyeGkFxw9rH3
It's largely a standard engine apart from the original ENEM/Irmscher cam and a fresh build so happy with that. I am running the 30mm chokes which although great for high end, may prove a bit OTT for road use. As I haven't driven it much since it was done, I will see what Spring/Summer brings.
I still have the Quaife ATB to install if I get round to it but again may drive it a bit more to see. I have done all my winter jobs so replaced the servo, sourced a better rear parcel shelf and sorted the rear washer that was a dribbler! I have a rev limiter to install, I want to replace the bonnet decal and now I have the original, correct brown fabric to go with my Daytona, I will be getting a spare set of seats retrimmed. Hopefully all done before VBOA 2018 (better still, Tatton).

All sounds good.... Look forward to seeing the seats!

No pressure on the seats then. Hopefully found a good trimmer. ;-)

I managed to source a small roll of the original brown - long story and it came from a batch of material found in Europe. To my knowledge, it is the only correct and original brown found in recent times. The reproduction chequered material is available from CCS in Leicester.
Good find! Are you doing the fronts aswell? If the reproduction is as good as original then this might de value original seats.

Yes fronts are being done as well. Don't think values will drop as decent brown is still hard to find.

Found a summary I wrote of the restoration work and updated it a bit. Will save anyone reading the whole thread! lol
Shell/body:
Stripped, soda blasted and epoxy primer before a 9 month restoration which included inner and outer rear quarters, floor, front and rear chassis leg repairs including replacement rear spring mount, sill repairs (keeping the good and original metal / seams where possible), battery tray replaced and full roof panel repair. Fitted with new and genuine front wings, both doors, front panel, bonnet and tailgate and also a new pattern fuel filler neck (powder coated black). Underside painted with epoxy mastic then Upol Raptor in Polar White. Full inside and outside respray with wax sprayed in to all cavities and inside doors, quarters, tailgate and bonnet frame. The work on the shell alone cost around £7k using a friend who was a welder/fabricator and another friend who was a car painter - Retropower quoted me around £13k for the same work. Brand new and correct / genuine front and rear bumpers. New genuine lights front and rear, including indicators and number plate, plus a full set of new Hella front headlights and indicators. Very good gutter trims and new correct door mirrors. Brand new genuine and correct Nova and 1.3 badges and a good used Vauxhall badge fitted to the rear. I also have a full new seat of genuine rear badges. New genuine headlight protectors. New genuine and correct early mudflaps with rears fitted with the correct bracket to position.
Engine:
Rebuilt by Mansfield Engine Centre including 0.5 oversize pistons and the correct (optional) Irmscher cam. Fitted with refurbished original Sport Weber carbs and many new genuine ancillaries including clutch, starter, alternator, dizzy, coil and obvious things like filters and ignition leads. Correct Irmscher inlet manifold and airbox. New exhaust manifold, system and correct Ashley back box. New Valeo radiator. Running a Filter King regulator, braided fuel hoses with no return pipe. New engine mounts fitted to powder coated brackets. The engine was statically set up by Alan from carbcare when he put the rebuilt carbs on and then rolling road setup by Peter Burgess. Made a strong 97bhp!
Transmission:
Brand new F10 5-speed box (W4.29 so great for acceleration), rebuilt driveshafts and front knuckles - with new genuine wheel bearings front and rear. I also have a new Quaife ATB diff to go on at some point.
Brakes:
Front: New calipers, vented discs, pads, braided hoses and kunifer lines.
Rear: Powder coated drums with new shoes, cylinders, braided hoses and kunifer lines.
New master cylinder, reservoir and reservoir seals (ultra rare) fitted to fully refurbished servo.
Suspension/steering:
Most things (including the beam) have been shot blasted and powder coated in gloss black. Has larger GTE front ARB and tie rods, new Bilstein B14 coilover kit and Powerflex bushes throughout. Corsa B ePAS rack refurbished and used as a quick rack (no power steering).
Interior:
Fully retrimmed seats in the CCS reproduction chequered and genuine new brown fabric - possibly the only car to have had a recent retrim using the correct brown. Plus I have the original Daytona interior which is in good condition considering it is nearly 32 years old. Interior is fitted with the best used bits I could find including carpet and dashboard. Excellent front/rear seatbelts, headlining and sunvisors. Correct rubber floor mats. Good correct early parcel shelf with working lift cords and minimal fade.
Other:
Original etched glass fitted with the exception of the front screen which is new with a new seal. Proper 5x13 steel wheels plus brand new freshly painted wheel trims (5 wheels and 5 trims). Fitted with new Firestone tyres in correct 175/70x13 size.
Full decal kit fitted by DMB - including sill trims and headlight surrounds with a spare bonnet and boot decal. Also had correct number plates, dealer sticker and tax disc holder made up by DMB.
New GM battery. New washer bottle and pumps and I even found a new horn! Loads of new GM coolant hoses. Excellent wiring loom with no scotchlocks anywhere - has a rev limited fitted which is correctly spliced in to the loom! All electrical items function correctly.
Lots of nuts, bolts and fittings have been plated in either gold or black.
Matching lock set with two keys and new door handles and lock surrounds (correct black).
Blasted and powder coated genuine GM fuel tank with new genuine sender and S hose, connected to new tank to engine fuel pipe.
Now fitted with 4 6x15 ET49 Compomotive TH3s - fresh refurb in anthracite with Toyo tyres in 195/45/15 so no need for arch mods.
Leftovers!!:
New non GM battery.
Consumables such as GM plugs, oil filters and oil.
Brand new correct Sport spec cam from ENEM in Sweden.
Some trim bits including 2 door cards with pockets and 2 door cards without pockets
Later type brown parcel shelf (rubber mounts rather than cord/elastic).

Found an old picture on here that had sills unpainted below the decal originally so who knows!
A local guy did the retrim - a few bits that perhaps differ slightly from original but in the main I am happy .
Does it matter what they were like originally?

2021 update in summary, well actually in full:
March - MOT, passed, had done 62 miles in the last year of which 30 were driving to/from the MOT
May - first time back on a rolling road since 2017. Same rolling road and made 102bhp, up from 95. The Magnex and V-power the main reason, plus the engine a bit looser after rebuild
July - did VBOA on PNG stand of course
August - did RRG at Shelsley Walsh - with PNG again. Also did one local car show and planning the same one in September
Big year next year - my daughter wants me to drive her to her wedding in it so will be keeping it for now!
Oh and yes, I did fit a red tailpipe to the Magnex!

Well a belated update for the rest of 2021 and 2022 so far. Not long after my last post above, I was diagnosed with cancer (Sept 21). A devastating blow, especially as my eldest daughter had asked me to drive her to her wedding in May 22 in the Sport. Skip forwards 6 months and after surgery, I am now having chemo and fingers crossed, will be well enough and perhaps in remission to do my Dad duty.
Anyway, enough of my woes - question is, what wheels for 2022?
The original, as worn in 1991 on my first date with Sam (and the reason the car means so much to us):
