At the moment ive got calibra 2.0 calipers n the fucking things catch on the inside of the wheel, Ive ground off as much of the bits that stick out of the caliper and I'd rather not add spacers to the hubs. would rather go for something better but sticking to GM calipers and carriers, any suggestions?

Cheers guys

If your sticking with GM. Go 288mm disc and caliper. Might get a 308 under there too.

Vectra gsi/sri are much easier to find than calibra or cav turbo

You dont have much choice I guess. If the 256mm are catching then anything bigger would be worse. Ive not heard of anyone running a Mk2 Astra with those wheels having the same issue though.

Paul,

The retaining spring sits pround from the caliper and the just touches the center/inner end of the spoke on the speedline wheel. Very common thing.
Nothing to really worry about, upgrading to the 288mm set up stops that as the spring is different shape. The 288 fit and clear fine.

Yes 288 and 308 both bolt striaght on to the nova hubs. Both fit and work fine, youll just get a bit more travel on the pedal.

You'll still get more travel, but everyones is a bit different. So yes do the 288mm set up.

if you have original Speedline cast wheels off the early 90's you'll need a 10mm spacer with 256 or 288 ATE calipers

later courtaney and wheelbase cast Speedline wheels were made under license and have a different casting around the hub area and clear 256 and 288 ate calipers

i I know as I have had the same issue

I had the org speedlines. And altho the caliper sprong touched the wheel, it was only a tiny bit and worn a 2mm groove in to the wheel. Would never have needed a 10mm spacer.

you are correct in what you say... Early design allesios will foul bigger calipers. The inside casting is completely different. I changed from the later design to early ones when using v6 calipers and the wheel wouldn't even turn past the calipers. Back on with late design and all was good.

No no, please don't take me to be rude, i was just saying my findings. As a ten mm spacer is huge in my eyes.
