Thank you chap. Is there any difference in spec/set up / engine etc ? or basically are they the same.

Basically the same other than the gsi had a c16se and the gte had a e16se and they where different mk's,

The differences are mostly cosmetic, they are mechanically near enough the same. So its a case of do you prefer the mk1 bodystyle and interior or the mk2?
I like both so if I was buying one then it would be down to the condition of the cars available. Theres not exactly an abundance of either around anymore, so unless your 100% set on having one particular model, then don't worry about it and buy the one in best shape.

In an imaginary scenario where I could choose from a mint condition one of either in the colour of my choice, I'd probably go for the GSi. The MK2 interior is nicer, and the GSi front bumper does appeal a bit more too. But I wouldn't exactly be upset if I was forced to take the GTE :)

Gte for me. I just prefer the mk1 look and front with the bigger head lamps and that. But like already stated it really is down to condition. I'm sure clean mk1s are almost none existant at this stage.

If you are looking to buy now which ever has the least rust.

It's all down to looks, if you can get either one then as above nowadays your looking at cars over 20 years old, both rare and make sure you get underneath and check for plenty of rot, don't trust any nova even if the paint looks shithot ;)

P.S if you do go for a gsi make sure you put speediness on it straight away or you will be removed from any nova/vauxhall meet and or show at gun point
