Thinking about getting one in the new year and have decided on a 2.0t or 1.9cdti but i don't know much about either engine. Car will be a daily and do occasional mororway miles but may increase. Any help is greatly appreciated

As you probably know the engine is the same as the Vectra C and the engines do seem to have a fair number of issues. The Vectra C website is a good starting point.

I will put a post there too. Just thought I'd try here first as I'm not registered on there yet

It's the same diesel engine as my astra. Although as the Signum shares the same platform as the vectra, it doesn't have the chocolate m32 gearbox from the astra so no expensive gearbox rebuild.
Common faults will be egr valve and boost sensor sooting up (easy fixes), swirl flaps sticking. Alternator failing, Dual mass flywheel failure which results in the gearbox coming off. May have issues with rear spring failures like the vectra does.
Having said that and only using my astra and the works vectra to go by, you can pick good ones up, which don't need work doing to them although at some stage the egr will have to be cleaned if it isn't deleted out of the software.
If you looking for the mpg. The diesel should return high 400s to low 500 miles to a tank.
Dual mass flywheel failure which results in the gearbox coming off.
GM build quality lol
