I am building one but it's still in the rust fixing stage, any help or information you need just ask and I'll do my best to help. There is information out there but it's not as common a conversion as a red top

What sort if drivrshaft/hub option are you using?

1.8 what? Small block, big block, 8v/16v?

I am planning a z18xe small block 16v build.

I'm going to be using a x18xe1 small block it works with an f13/15 gearbox hence I'll be running the standard hubs and shafts. How long it will last is anyone's guess though but hopefully it should be fine.

I had z18xe in corsa B. The shafts had no problems.

I too am planning to use standard shafts and hubs with and f13/15 box on a z18xe build on bodies, cams, management. A couple of things i have been advised to do is check drive shaft plunge and also to reduce lock sightly to help them.

There are people out there running more power and torque on normal shafts, and in rallying too with minimal problems.

Yeah I have built a Z18XE & F15 on Jenveys, MBE management. My build thread isn't very good for info, but feel free to pm/ask anything :-)
I just used the existing hubs/shafts the car already had - previous owner had fitted Nova Diesel shafts whatever benefit they have. But its all O.E GM small block bits.
I do admit I haven't used the car in reeaal anger though, never floored it from standstill etc - I've been mindful of not wanting to break anything ha.
It's pretty futile anyway; I don't run big sticky tyres nor an LSD or any traction control.

What car did you get the engine from?

There's a guy selling a 2001 astra sri with a 1.8 engine near where I live for 200 quid, the car is in poor shape but engine is perfect, would this engine be suitable to put into my nova?

A 2001 will probably be an x18xe1 perfect for a nova, if it's a z18xe which came after the x18xe1 and your using standard inlet then you need to work around the fly by wire throttle, x18xe1 is cable throttle.

Would you recommend going for the 1.8 or splashing the extra cash for a redtop?

I have no experience with redtops but I had an Astra mk4 1.8 years ago and to be honest I thought it was a great engine and it's a decade newer then the c20xe, I appreciate that's not always a good thing but I really do like the 1.8

It seems a good conversion I'm surprised it's not done more often
