Best engine

I was planning on fitting a 20xe redtop but finding it very hard to get one at decent money and seems to be a bit of hassle with drive shifts etc, not to mention how expensive it is for throttle bodies and manifolds etc. Is there any other cool engine options that are easier to fit and more reliable and have great bhp figures if running on carbs or bodies. Interested to see opinions

X18xe1 small block engine is what I'm building on throttle bodies will probably end up costing at least 1500 pounds all in including management but I'm hoping for at least 170-180 bhp and should be a lot of fun and something different.
its a good choice because it runs on an f13/15 gearbox and runs standard hubs and shafts and added bonus it's not very common.

Decent suspension and you'll corner okay, look at hobbits effort lol

1.8 16v is nowa days best engine I reckon! Imagine bodies etc is a similar price though?

Does anyone have any information or a link to a bulk with this engine? What gearbox usually comes with the 1.8 and does it bolt straight in also?

F17 C374 is mostly the original gearbox for the x18xe1 and z18xe engines. It works on street.
