Hi I'm wanting to make a spit for my nova shell. I have looked at lots of pictures. The A frame type seems most common. Has anyone made these at home ? Any measurements or advice ?

If you need to ask advise you shouldn't be making one :P

Why not? He's maybe more than capable of making one, dimensions will always make life easier.

Google car spits and get a general drawing and just marry up the measurements from a nova to suit. Good luck

To be honest, I wouldnt bother with the hassle. I bought mine from the guy on ebay that's makes them and once I'd finished with it I sold it for about 75% of what I paid for it.

I want to make one. I like to make things and would be happy knowing I could do it. I priced 7.5m of box section is roughly £45. So I'm thinking if I measure from centre of bumper bar to side of car then add a bit on, that should cover the height. Then just work out the angle of the 2 uprights

That price for box is garbage.2.5mm 40x40 should be pence especially at the moment.iirc the centre of the spit has to be 40summat inch to the centre dont quote me but im sure i was told that.if youre good at welding these are a piece of piss to make.Fuck spending 500quid on one off ebay.Iv seen one and i wasnt impressed.

I bought one of the ones off ebay - just over 200 quid for the base price but paid extra for the caster set (and additional framework) and two easy load kits, taking price with delivery nearer to £500 . To be honest, if you have access to cutting and welding kit I am sure they are easy to copy - if I was buying again, I wouldn't go for the extras and would have made the caster frame myself. I am going to pass this on to another member when done and then will sell on.

Happy to take measurements if you want them.

Not in terms of making but you need to ensure you can get the shell to the optimum pivot point/centre of rotation otherwise its a strain to rotate 360 degrees.

Make it so that you can still fit it between the legs of an engine crane. youll kick your self if the engine crane cant get far enough in to lift the car on and off the spit

optimum pivot point/centre of rotation is the middle of the car. just measure the width from the middle of the car to the end of the wing mirror which is like 95 cm plus 10 cm clearance and you have the height of the pivot off the ground.

also its better to make the floor supports removable so it stores away up against a wall.
