Can you change the clutch in a GTE/GSi without taking the gearbox off? As in take it out through the access panel. I always thought you could but someone told me the other day that because the clutch is 200mm it won't fit. Is this true? has anyone managed it?

Cheers

im hoping to soon fit my fast road (i think it is anyway) clutch into my gsi, ive had the part for nearly a year.never got round to it. Im not a mechanic and i know very little almost bugger all about car parts. ive asked around and i can't remember any one stressing the gearbox needs to come out. You have to drop or lower a shaft out of the in-ards of the box i think but don't think it has to come off. Anyways its a nova mate- gotta be straight forward..!

No you don't need to remove the box. The clutch will just fit through the access hole, this is a lot easier if you have the special tool to pull back the main shaft. Takes about an hour if your messing about.
