I have a Safety Devices rear cage with a fixed diagonal

I want to get a couple extra bits of tubing welded in to make a X

I have someone who will cut, profile and weld it in

Am I right in thinking that I need CDS tubing?
Seen lengths on eBay

Any better recommended places to buy correct tubing from?

What wall thickness is needed?

Yes cds tubing is what you're after Edd. I got my material from custom cages. I used t45 at 1.6mm thick so cds will prob need another mm so I'd say around 2.6mm.

Edit. Here's a piece of left over cds from my mates integra.

Cds isnt imperative.it is also very very expensive.normal seamed tube will be fine and at a fraction of the price

Use whatever diameter the rear stays are. If they are 40mm you can use 2mm wall, if they are 38mm use 2.6mm. This keeps it legal if you or the next owner ever want to use it in an MSA event.

Use cold drawn steel.

This is a little bit complicated and the answer is not straightforward.

If its a safety devices cage with a certificated number, then you cannot modify it as it invalidates the cage certification whenever modifications are made. You may be required to show the cage homologation papers at any MSA event scrutineering and the cage wont match the homologation papers.

However, if it already meets MSA regs for diameter and tube thickness on each and every tube (which many do not as they are often certified through analysis rather than cage diameter and thickness), then you can modify it as long as it meets the MSA minimum diameter and tube thickness regs.

That's a very good answer.

It's never going to be used in a event, so I'm not really bothered by all that

Safety Devices themselves can make this change for you, which would perhaps keep the certification (or they could issue a fresh certificate) I've been in touch with them about a cage for mine.

EDIT: Guess if it isn't getting used at an event it doesn't matter, ignore me lol :tard:

Then if its not to be used like that, CDS in appropriate wall thickness and diameter to match the minimum MSA regs and the current diameters would work :-)

If its never gonna be used in an event save £££ and use seamed.
Send the cash saved up the porcelain or up in smoke lol lol
