On the sensor theres two terminals.Which wire goes to each terminal?
I have a blue wire with green trace and blue wire with yellow trace.
the sensor has a spade terminal and a ring terminal.
Help please.

On my OE XE one, low pressure light is the single pin plug and the pressure gauge was a push on circular sort of terminal.

I think I'd put money on the spade being the light on yours, pics?

None taken lol
The sensor is a gm one

Anybody?
May aswell delete this section entirely and just list the handful of people left that reply so they can be pm'd. :/

Multimeter test. The light will earth via the wire when there's oil pressure (I.e. 0 continuity between engine and pin when running, 1 when not)

Cheers iain.youre one of the mentioned pm list lol

I have a 1985 1.3 SR engine and the terminals on the switch are a small pin and the other one is a weird plastic connector. The weird plastic connector terminal is the warning light and has a blue wire with a green trace. The pin terminal takes a blue wire with yellow trace and this goes to the gauge. It sounds like your terminals are different to mine, but I hope this info is some help to you.

No unfortunately the sender is faulty.its reading max on tickover.0 when off.

Try swapping the wires over, I once had a sensor that did this and then it worked bizzarely.

Tried that to no avail.

Pressure gauge is reading full? Light working?

Andy

Digital gauge reads 0 off.
70 idle tiny blip on throttle and i mean like 250rpn and its 120 which is the max lol
car runs spot on aswell

Andy

Yeah light working.is aftermarket gauge

Iain

OK possibly not compatible with the gauge then?

What make and model of gauge?

Andy

Is a cheapass digi gauge from china i found for next to nowt.it actually came with its own sender but il need to buy an adapter as the threads too small.

Iain

Likely to be 1/8 thread (bsp or npt, check if its tapered), adaptors are cheap enough so I think you'll end up having to use the proper sender.

Sell the gm sender on the bay for loads, then get a union for the sender, and an oil light switch.

Size is for the spare plugs in the block. I think the oe place in the back of the pump is a smaller size. In fact may be the right size?

Andy
03-10-15, 09:49 AM
The 1/8 sender was too small.its going in the pump at the back.

Iain

OK ignore my m14 comment then as not 100%

Multimeter test. The light will earth via the wire when there's oil pressure (I.e. 0 continuity between engine and pin when running, 1 when not)

So the oil pressure light will earth via the sender unit when the engine is running and there is oil pressure? How does the light work then, how does the car losing pressure and the sender not earthing anymore activate the light?

I am looking to wire in an electric fuel pump in an early carb car and wanted to use the oil pressure sender in the wiring as a safety measure. Was thinking of earthing the relay via the sender unit.

Will also use an inertia switch.
