This is going to be the tip of the iceberg https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Volkswagen_Group#Subsidiaries_and_marques

This would also possibly explain the VW Crafter work have chucking out clouds of blue smoke yet still passing its MOT lol

I wouldn't be surprised if under further investigation a lot of other marques do similar things. Is that not partly what these small turboed petrol engines are about? At lowish revs without load on the engines the turbos won't really be operating so the emissions will be low at an MOT test but.....in real life driving with turbos on when the driving.....I would imagine they would fail. I have also wondered for years why is the strong sulphur smell (more pronounced in wet weather) never been an issue? I thought sulphur was worse as it goes up to the ozone quicker?

I bet there are loads of silly ways to sell cars under the green banner when common sense says...make them lighter (less use of raw materials and emmisions to power the building), lighter means more efficient (less raw materials and emmisions to produce these) and make longer lasting cars so again less resources and emmisions but of course there is no money in any of this.

In all honesty I have always regarded a lot of this eco cars (blue motion etc) as money making schemes and if I am right and it becomes a huge worldwide issue, there will be a few small fines, false promises and then swept under the carpet so everyone (including governement taxes) can carry on making money. Rememeber the scrappage scheme? Another great green idea...not.

I'm just glad the missus hasn't found the "right" Golf GTD yet..... although she wouldn't be buying for the Green thing, more on the looks and the less likelihood of it failing, cheaper Tax would have been a bonus.
however I can see that this will be changing, prices will fall (good for us as they are just the little bit over the price budget we have!), Tax could /will go up and then what about all the other VAG cars that share the same engines?? The numbers are going to get very silly very quickly!

Is it just me, or is anyone else struggling to see how this benefited VW or how it's affected any of the public?
You bought a car... it's not quite as 'green' as you thought it was... so what? It's not a fuel consumption thing so it's not like you're spending more on fuel.
When the cars are on test they pass so the engines are capable of being as 'green' as they claim to be, so why did they even do it?

Ffs people..... this has been going on for decades.... all the other mfrs are quietly cacking themselves.....just wait till lorries & buses get checked.....then it will hit the fan properly. Seriously, who believes injecting dyed pig piss down the chimney really fixes emissions?...

Don't see how this is any different to supposed MPG figures every car has that are impossible to replicate.

They employ specialist drivers to do the economy tests.

I swear I read somewhere about saxo having some sort of air pump that pumped fresh air into the exhaust to help with emissions...if it's true that's bloody dodgy

Loads of motors have air pumps for emissions control purposes. I still don't see what the problem is.. the authorities set crap tests that can be fiddled...

the authorities set crap tests that can be fiddled...

which on this programme they proved with the vauxhall they were testing! the test is at fault and how they minipulate it to pass is the problem!!!!
