Hi guys,

thought is was about time i started my build thread as i really enjoy reading (stealing ideas) from everyone else's. I bought my nova last May and spent the summer enjoying it. It had a corsa gsi c16xe on twin 40 webbers with omex 200 ecu with launch control. Come October i sold my evo so the garage was free and i decided to start from scratch on the nova.

Plan is, a light weight, wide arched track/ hill climb car but still road legal. I have a SCCR transx gear cluster, pro tec wide arch kit, quaife diff and a fresh lovely Bill Falconer built (in process of being built) 1600 16 valve on twin 45 clubman engine.

I am useless at posting pictures so bear with me, i have them on my facebook page so am pasting them across from there but i think they might come out huge?..... here goes.

Looks a nice car to start with and some good plans, first thing you need to do is wip off that monster sticker.

When you copy photos over, right click on the photo on FB, then click on copy img. Come back to here, press the Add photo button then paste in your code.
The photo will then show. I did it with your dash one.

So first thing to start was the stripping of the interior (no pics, we know how it goes). The sound deadening was fun.... heated with a heat gun and then scrapped off. Piles of the black tar!

Stella helps! haha.

Then i began wire wheeling the floor pan around the seat mount areas etc.

https://scontent-lhr3-1.xx.fbcdn.net/hphotos-xaf1/v/t1.0-9/12027713_938469272878503_6170518888524636215_n.jpg ?oh=c6282373ff97b157d46414e589bc94ae&oe=56A6AE64

Then seat rails went in. Didnt fancy paying £70 odd quid for some pipe so made my own with cds pipe bought from local metal merchants.

Good progress so far mate :thumb:

I spy a cable shifter....have you already tried and tested that? Or is it a new addition to the build? Seen a couple of conversions but not that many in-depth threads or pics about

Cheers mate. Cable shifter was an epic task of head scratching and swearing but it is now all in place with cables shortened and custom mounts for shifter and cable gearbox bracket. I have all gears now but i have not road tested it yet as the car is in bits. Am excited about that more than anything... hope it works haha. Will get more pics up as i go on.

Sourced a complete top half front end from that company in Holland. GM sticker on it so think it was original, fitted fine anyway.

Am the first to admit its not the neatest but solid and wont be seen.

Had to renew the drivers splash guard, the last man in decided just to plate over the rusting old one so cut the whole lot out and made myself a new one.

Sorry about the lack of "before hand and in process" pictures, i some how managed to loose something like 200 pictures off my phone while trying to upload them onto my laptop to start this build thread.... there was some swearing involved that day!

The rear arches were also rusted quite badly, because am fitting a wide arch kit i just cut a high arch above all the rust and set about sheeting in the gap.

The cap is a flush fit motorbike one. Used a mix of rubber fuel filler hose and stainless steel pipe and bends to connect to the fuel tank. Still a bit of tiding up to do on it but all fits.

Great welding and repairs. Nice parts too. Colour scheme looks good to me.

Filler neck re route looks like it'll trap dirt in the arch, was there no way go route it directly up behind?

Pleased with how it came out. i Copied Count vauxalot for this one and again on the brake pedal set up (no pics yet).

I then cut away and re seemed the inner arch so i can remove the gear set without removing the box. Will make it a lot quicker when changing final drive and pinion gears.

Got a phone call today form Bill Falconer, my engine is ready!! Made good power and torque, he's happy and am delighted!

Looking for advice about fitting my fibre glass rear arches. I was thinking along the lines of bonding them on and pop rivets however, do i bond on to bare metal then treat after or zinc prime then bond? Also with the thickness of the fibre glass not being much i cant see my being able to countersink the rivets so is it a case of filler over the top and smoothing off. Also anyone know where to get fibre glass doors from?

Cheers boys.

Hi ben, the filler requires a 60mm hole and the outer collar is 65mm.

Many many years ago I added a drop snoot front to a Firenza and so far as I can recall I glassed it onto a pre-primed (etch or zinc 182) surface, I also cut back the gel coat so I could fit rivets with thin spreader washers underneath. I managed to get the result properly faired into the wings so you couldn't see the join. Was pretty well fixed cos when I stuck the car into a hedge that contained a too solid post, I had to replace the b****y thing and it was a real work up getting the first one off...!

Loving the work you are putting into this, I especially like the tube pillar supports for your gear linkage and what is presumably your hydraulic handbrake(?) Way nicer than box section, even though it is trickier to weld... Nice welding by the way, far better than mine sadly.

Keep up the good work, I'll be following this thread that's for sure.

Thanks for the info Dave, i will be following your advice when i come to fit the kit. Yes the tube mounts are for my gear shifter and hydraulic handbrake, like you say looks a bit nicer than box section but more importantly less weight also.

thanks for the comments and as for welding; keep at it practise makes perfect haha.

Hi Guys, sorry for the lack of updates but as a lot of you will know life can get in the way of these builds. I got on the property ladder in November with my first house, i thought spending money on cars was easy - ha, houses are another level the cash just flies out of your pocket.

Anyway not a lot of pictures of late, have mainly just been wiring wheeling the underside and cutting out and repairing any rust i find. Along side this, has been a running project of sorting out the gear change equipment. Started with internal shift rod binned that for a modified vectra cable shift which then lead to vectra cable turret but custom cables and brackets which was going to be the final solution however..........

I Found this https://scontent-lhr3-1.xx.fbcdn.net/hphotos-xfa1/v/t1.0-9/12974352_1049400548452041_18058273163437644_n.jpg? oh=bbc97677b45c7b382f3eacd6f500a89b&oe=577C288D

I am led to Believe Bill sold very few and has now moved on to old motorbikes etc so when this came up i had to have it. So to the 4th and defo final gear change set up.
https://scontent-lhr3-1.xx.fbcdn.net/hphotos-xft1/v/t1.0-9/12931062_1049400698452026_3760065880045231962_n.jp g?oh=673454b4b10061bbfbe2e06997f79cf2&oe=5772FE6B

This is the hole required for the shift rod. You can see the previous bulk head holes/mods for the other previous selector options. Also cut out my round bar legs for the vectra selector and mounted the sequential selector straight to the floor with welded captive nuts on the underside.
https://scontent-lhr3-1.xx.fbcdn.net/hphotos-xla1/v/t1.0-9/12961722_1049400585118704_4137201726528793890_n.jp g?oh=ecf19f729673ad3e433468a49a4eb61f&oe=577E57D9

This then led to trial fitting of gearbox, turret and sequential mechanism. Set up was a walk in the park tbh (no pics). So cleaned up the inside of bulk and fitted the rubber boot and plate.

Yeah i spoke to Bill about one when he built my engine but he wouldnt sell me one because he had a bit of hassle with last customer and decided he didnt want to deal with stuff like that any more as he is trying to retire and is moving on to old motor bikes. He has built a motorbike rolling road in his shed! Has been proven in a couple of rally cars so i dont see any problems, certainly all seems fine on the trial fit.

Hi guys. Got another small update, progress is not as fast as i would like but who's build is? Its a catch 22 situation i find, i get rest days from work which is ideal for working on the nova but to be able to buy all the nice parts i want to fit i have to work my days off to get the overtime cash to buy them. Like i said catch 22.

Anyway, past couple of weeks i have...

located my screen wash tank and pump with a view of keeping a clean looking engine bay as possible.

Pretty happy with that, mounted it above the passenger foot well. Got a mate that is going to make me a stainless rear water pipe which will have the outlets pointing towards my bulkhead fittings, so easy to connect up with just straight coolant hose. Still got to buy ducting and windscreen vents to mount into dash.

Living in hope of some nice summer days out for a blast, decided to fit roof vent for some fresh air.

Love it all. Filler cap out of scuttle is subtle looking..

Next up was passenger foot rest and plumbed in fire extinguisher kit.
https://scontent-lhr3-1.xx.fbcdn.net/v/t1.0-9/13620021_1104279872964108_4394760592824317242_n.jp g?oh=99a0431d317deea12e63b73bdf6091bf&oe=57F311E3
Cheapest one i could find, cut to suit the space and mounted with rubber riv-nut type things.
https://scontent-lhr3-1.xx.fbcdn.net/v/t1.0-9/13600109_1104279932964102_3824905636228536046_n.jp g?oh=f369b2855635116decc6f41f97477af2&oe=57F05179
Comfy enough, am average height so should be fine for most.
https://scontent-lhr3-1.xx.fbcdn.net/v/t1.0-9/13627156_1104279919630770_3389503591602299225_n.jp g?oh=5f7ac20dc05aeaadc9cb1fa0fcda9fd1&oe=57F6A01C

That then showed me the area i had to play with for mounting plumbed in kit.
https://scontent-lhr3-1.xx.fbcdn.net/v/t1.0-9/13606896_1104280076297421_4270209018107187984_n.jp g?oh=a381d318474e02badbc30722a3eef452&oe=57ED1664
Fits in here nicely. Welded some bigger washers onto m6 mounting nuts to help spread load a bit and then welded them into position on the floor.
https://scontent-lhr3-1.xx.fbcdn.net/v/t1.0-9/13567139_1104280039630758_1064665130032333942_n.jp g?oh=2bb423013256beb6a4829975fc6409f3&oe=57EDB29B
and bolted down.
https://scontent-lhr3-1.xx.fbcdn.net/v/t1.0-9/13631517_1104280109630751_7693011299215261187_n.jp g?oh=a8d8ed3379b824ae78a1536784bdaf34&oe=5830BB24

Now to route the pull cables. Outside one along the sill and up into engine bay to mount on the scuttle under windscreen.

rubber grommets will be fitted after paint. For the drivers pull handle i thought it would be good to tie it in with my rear brake bias valve. So came up with this..
https://scontent-lhr3-1.xx.fbcdn.net/v/t1.0-9/13631517_1104280539630708_5829219870549947850_n.jp g?oh=ef7a7c2d7ed10823cc8fee4ee9aed12d&oe=582CB869

Easy to get to from drivers seating position and nice and secure with 2 m6 rivnuts.
https://scontent-lhr3-1.xx.fbcdn.net/v/t1.0-9/13627186_1104280472964048_7190465074174274839_n.jp g?oh=fcd65942fbc35a419e5197ac9efce406&oe=57F89A77

Thats as far as i could go with this as i am waiting on p clips to secure cables and also a bulk head fitting for the AFFF feed hose to pass into the engine bay.
Also fitted a hand held behind the drivers seat.

Again just a couple for rivnuts.

Now like i was saying earlier, having to work overtime to pay for parts...... this is the latest buy.

Quaife dog box!!! Been playing on my mind how the sycro,s will stand up to the sequential shifter and then this popped up. Quickly becoming undriveable on the road this car but who cares will be a good laugh.

I can't help but think your extinguishers would be better off the opposite way round. All looks excellent though.

So guys this is how it looks now.. just suspension and geo set up then its ready for test run.

I would love to update this thread properly but i can't add pictures when am on my laptop, i used to like thru facebook but it wont work for me now and this taptalk fone app is no use for a long build.

Any ideas in how to get pictures working again much appreciated.

Cheers. https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20181021/ee80fbaf04d52bb7476cc1ad81359a0c.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20181021/d465dd217d8531eea59e55d6e3411647.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20181021/7cb453b45b3526dee44a2212de3a5920.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20181021/d9c5510d0c6c8b871bd5be340c5d6413.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20181021/6be0077571de1b609e51d909a7b8d2c6.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20181021/fcc528c28332fb60582a23cf6aaec345.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20181021/0234b15b7acc3760491fad4c3128c1b9.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20181021/778edb1b374930150c1ea89e444e7a00.jpg
