This thread works well on another forum I'm part of, so lets give it a go. Things not big or interesting enough to warrant a WIP update, e.g. a wash or a small mod.

What have you done to your Nova today?? (With pics!)

Took off the head as thought engine was seized!!!

then removed the gearbox as it was actually one of the clutch bolts (that's now being!) that was catching on the engine webbing.

so new head bolts, flywheel bolts and clutch bolts needed 😠

TBH bad circumstance floats over my life like a spectre; I have to trust myself everything will be alright with the choice.

The hardest part is giving certain bits to another (THE most basic of precision machining) and waiting probably 5 working days for him to spend the 30 minutes doing it.

Started extending the cross board connections on my "Deconstructed" Digi Dash. With the Missus telling me that the digi dash is going to look "Gay".... She prefers the Dials, however, I've challenged her, if she can find a 6 dial set of clocks then the Digi dash gets put to one side.... Digi Dash it is then!

I cant abide being at the mercy of other people,i sometimes consider buying the tooling to do the machining as I could get it done at work but they don't have the right cutters etc.I do get all my measuring done there by myself and then checked works machine shop so I know if I do really need stuff doing. This way I can ring the engine shop and ask for quotes.

Edd

Standard one, 92

82 and 76 are, I believe that the 76 are fitted in Scandinavian countries as standard

£46 is a piss take

BRoadGhost

Put simply; if you're having temp issues and everything seems to be in order, it'll be the head gasket ;0

Novasport
15-09-15, 11:03 PM
From what I understand the engine is running too cool when driving but it is fine when stationary, I would suspect a thermostat stuck open.

Andy
16-09-15, 01:04 AM
Yeah.an engine needs to get to normal operating temp to be efficient. If its too cold it can accelerate wear and tear of components.People get over obsessive with keeping them cool.In reality an engine should be able to tickover all day.

"cool running" stats arnt worth a wank. All you need is a good cooling system and you'll be fine.

No one's obsessing here!! The only thing I obsess over is playing with the giant dong that lives on my forehead!!!

The only reason I'm trying to stay below 90's is because above that the compensation maps start to kick in and screw about with stuff!!

when driving along the car runs at 75 degrees, according to the gauge and the data logger.

My original enquiry to do with thermostats related to the fact that when stationary idling for long periods the fan (ECU controlled to come on at 85) comes on and stays on, something it's only done since Cadwell. The bottom rad hose gets noticeably colder but the top rad hose stays red hot and the fan never switches off.

im going to replace the stat tomorrow and see what happens!!!

Iain

Decided 2 M12 and 2 M6 bolts were far too much effort to remove a bumper, so I've converted it to R-clips for tool-less removal.

I have absolutely no idea from, but it is in the driver side footwell. I'll try again tomorrow with my mate.

Yesterday, started the sprint for the first time since the start of September iirc. That was it but going to go and put it away for winter later in the week.

The sport has been ignored since Billing but need to do something about that as well this week.

I know your in a sunnier climate but if your getting water in the footwell you might have a rust hole in the battery tray, it really does hide under the under seal and will leak water in under the dash and into the footwell

Out of interest you have a black headlining do you not? What did you do with the sun visors? did you get them re covered?

Benn

I do.

I temp painted them with a vinjal paint, its just flexi so is ok with the movement. But they are now off being re-trimmed.

Ahh cool ye was gonna just paint mine but have also since decided to have them trimmed now too, all the grab handles on the other hand are getting some serious amounts of black Plastikote lol

Is that the stuff that peels off?

TOZNOVA81

No its enamel paint, bloody brilliant stuff, really hard wearing. I once painted my boot and wing with the stuff years ago when i had a bit of a bump in my old nova and you couldnt tell the difference between the original paint and the plastikote painted stuff. its the only paint id use on interior pats now knowing it wont scratch off over time.

Yes, as long as it will stick to the martial that's on there. But i want them re-trimmed in leather really.
