I'm going to fit the 1.3 engine from a 1985 SR into my 1988 1.2 Merit. On the back of the SR cylinder block, just by the starter motor, there is a screw in fitting with two outlets. My question is....what's it for?

Looks like the oil pressure sender to me, assuming thats where they are on a small block 8v

There isn't one of those on my 1985 SR, oil pressure sender is on the oil pump,

Vacuum temperature switch.

Thanks people for your help.Meritlover,I've had a look at the SR engine bay that I've taken the engine from and I think you are right! Two small (approx3mm) plastic pipes lead up onto the nearside inner wing behind the headlight and go into a connector block. Can I just ignore it and seal up the outlet hole in the engine block fitting? What does the vacuum temperature switch do?

I think it was used to advance the timing when the engine was cold. You should get away with just running the vacuum hose straight between the manifold and the distributor.

OK, that's good. Thank's for that.
