I've started fabricating the front panel on the nova for the front mount today so it's hidden behind the bumper. I'm planning to mount 2 x 6" fans above it on the front as there's no room on the engine side of the radiator. This leaves little space for the oil cooler as its a decent sized Ken Lowe one. Will it be okay mounted under the front valance sat flat and get sufficient air flow? Cheers scott

Can you not get it behind the front grille Scott? Or is it too big to sit there neatly?

They don't need a huge amount of airflow to be affective. On a cold day I often put cardboard in front of mine to raise the oil temps a bit otherwise it can struggle to get upto operating temps.

In theory cardboard shouldn't be needed if it's a thermostat controlled cooler.

Its a thermostat plate and is operating correctly as far as im aware, starts opening at 80 and fully open by 88/90 when i put it in kettle water with thermometer. Mostly only needed on cold days if say sitting on motorway cruising along under very little load and low rpm Or just pottering around. warm day or hammering it sits at 90c bang on.

Mines mounted in the wheel arch, against the front panel/wing join. Gets good air flow and is nice and simple. Short pipes if its on the drivers side too.
Pics in my re-build thread or i can find some if you want.

Cheers guys.

i did try looking through your build thread last week Benn as I knew you must've covered it but couldn't find the exact page in the huge volume of pages lol
I'm still swaying towards the idea of mounting it to the bottom of the front cross member but also worried about ground clearance.

I mounted mine on the back of the rad in the original fan position and made some brackets to hold it in place as I had the same problem with lack of room

Once I get the turbo back next week I'll bolt everything up I think and see where's best, got a few ideas to play with now :)

Meshed both sides to keep stones away...

Cheers Benn, not sure if I'm brave enough to put things in my arches yet lol I've been thinking about running the afm under there though and the filter through the inner wing like courtenay used to on a few of there's.

Should be nice this when it's done. What turbo you going to be using? What power you hoping for?

Ive got a t3 from a 2wd Sierra cosworth, just had it fully rebuilt with updated bearings and seals, etc. not sure to be honest. I could go try push it to 320ish but I think I'll set the boost down for now as I need to run the motor in and I don't want to start killing f20 boxes.

My oil cooler is fitted under valanc (laying flat) it's been that way for 2yr and I've not experienced any problems with mine.

Sound, cheers :thumb: think that's the plan, it'll save cutting things too much.

Just because it hasn't given you problems doesn't mean it's being effective.

This is mine, granted it's an XE and there's more room available.

Just as an alternative thought process, consider changing your fan setup to suit the cooler. I'm sure one larger fan would be just as good as two 6"?

Edit: looking at the pic there's no room for a fan engine-side, and FMIC takes up too much space to fit one large one, ffs LETs lol

Could always fabricate a simple oil cooler scoop if you wanted to mount it flat at bottom of engine bay or 1 of the revotec ducts and piping and mount it anywhere you like.
