Not sure if there are any PNG peeps on here or not, but if there are then thanks for today in terms of letting Cally (my girlfriend) stick her car (mid engined rwd thing) in the concours shed so that people could see it despite her not being entered in concours and not being a member.
She has joined now.

LOL, well ive never had anything to do with them before, as im not really "into" novas like that TBH, so i cant really comment, but i somehow dont think me and cally are the right sort of people to fit in with them, they seemed more interested in licking their windows to make sure they are clean than driving their cars hard, so its not really our thing, but on the other hand, at least in ensures plenty of decent novas survive, so fair play to that i guess.

I wouldnt call them knob jockeys..

I've been with PNG for 2 years now, magazines not too bad, gives some decent info.. guys in it are sound.. There's some stunning members car's, karl's, brett's, Andy b's etc...

There isnt the same following of Nova's with the likes of MIG..

So i'll be sticking with them...

as has been said in the past, if you are new to the png as in last few yrs you dont miss what you didnt have. I was a member for 5 yrs and its decline was alot more obvious, it was better as a nova club, but then they sold out and made all the sub categories and called them all part of pcc.
Once this happened they had to keep all happy so the attention that was present before for the nova just got i felt, swept under the carpet cos there was new toys with newer no. plates to cater for. even the mag got destroyed and full of corsa's/astra's or whatever. I felt that if i wanted to be a member of a 'vauxhall' club then others had more to offer as the nova scene within the pcc was slowly being pushed out. (great club eh)

This is just my opinion as others are probably still happy within the png/pcc/blah blah

It seems a bit weird that they are all such a bunch of window lickers as im sure as i remember it half a dozen years ago people were more interested in driving hard in the PNG than polishing their cars. But maybe ive got the wrong impression from today as it was a show not a trackday after all, so maybe it wasnt a representative sample.
Also it does seem very commercialised, more like a business than a club, but maybe thats a thinly veiled compliment that shows what a profressional job they are doing.

Either way i see no point in anyone slagging them off, if its not what you want from a club, join another i guess.

Hey, im a member and im no window licker!!! I built me car to drive it! Hard! Mine was the red GTE outside the barn entrance with white wheels.......and all the dents in the doors :D

Some people dislike the PNG and slag them off, but whats wrong if "some" of the members are into there concours??? Would I be right in saying they still have the most Nova members than any of the other of the vauxhall car clubs? And obviously the membership is going to decline as the Nova gets older. Its just one of those things.

Pretty much hit the nail on the head there Dan, I've been a member (and I still am) since probably '96 / '97 I guess when it was still the PNG, since the change to PCC and the involvment of Corsas and Astras to the group things have gone downhill, you only need to look at their stand at Trax this year as proof - no big marque like in previous year, just a small tent type thing.
Another big downfall of the PNG was falling out with the VBOA and no longer attending Billing, because of that fact alone I also joined the VSCC so I could still attend and get on the stand there and now as a member of the VSCC you can see how well run it is in comparison to the PCC, so much so that I'm not sure wether to renew my PCC membership next month and just stick with the VSCC.

I've been a member of the PNG for about 3 years now. I think they had to cut down on costs which is why they stopped the individual magazines and now have just the one mag which covers all types of Vauxhalls. The mags ok, with a few bits of information but you see less and less Novas (which is to be expected I suppose). My membership runs out next year and I don't think I'll be renewing it. In fact, if anyone can recommend any decent clubs worth joining where I can gain entry to events throughout the year then let me know. Id also appreciate a brief description of what events you gain access to and how well you rate the clubs.

My membership has also lapsed and i wont be joining again, the main thing that annoyed me was the regional co ordinator for the PNG by me was a guy who owns a Corsa and has NEVER owned a nova nor does he have any intrest in them whatsoever.

Was a good day, was some very nice cars there was very small but i guess they lost people due to chaniging the date etc.

was a few funny sights, saw a lot of the novaload members wandering round but dont think they knew who i was, when was looking round LeeGSi's Turbo he came wandering over to make sure it was locked then wandered off again, do i look that dodgy?

Was about to go and say hello to Chris T but he disapeared somewhere.

VxlSCC (Vauxhall Sports Car Club), have a large stand at pretty much every major show and all the Vauxhall ones (Exepct the PCC national day - durrr).
Backed by Vauxhall themselves so you get discount on parts at main dealers, they have their own insurance branch for performance Vauxhalls, you get a magazine every couple of months or so.
Very well run and well organized at shows etc.
I'd recommend 'em.

i've been a member to png now for a few years. this years show took the iceing away from a good one last year. venue was badly positioned or was it i was going too fast to spot the pcc signs. prob the latter. some people are proud of there motor, so let them be. as for me 9 points and a ban say it all

Ive been a png member and regional co-ordinator now for god knows how many years and ive seen the club change in many ways.

I will be the first to admit the club has declinded in recent years, think this is due to it trying to become to big. And as for this year we all know the club has had a few problems, things have got a bit to political in the past i think.

But as for peoples comments regarding the members ( window lickers etc ) it really does wind me up how quick individuals are to judge people. I for one enjoy keeping my car immaculate but at the same time i drive it hard recently enjoying a number of track days.

So why is there so much bad feeling between car clubs? i for one do not like confrontation or slagging people off, there is no need. There has been a few comments recently on novaload slagging pcc memebers off ( i wont name the people you no who you are ) Recently i organised a day for a terminally ill friend of mine, and that saw a number of car clubs working togeather! And for that one day everyone felt that had achieved something. It was a social event, the cars just got us all together.

There are people in the PCC i dont like, but i dont shout it out. And there are individuals on novaload and Mig that wind me up with there comments, but i dont put you all in brackets.

Like i say, i dont like arguments. So dont take my words the wrong way guys. If you do then im sorry, contact me on my email and i will talk to you personally, i dont wish to classed as a person that slags other individuals.

Guys, at the end of the day we are all in it for the same reason (the cars) and also it gives us all a reason to talk and make new friends. Lets try and remember that.

Karl

I think the location wus not very good at all for the national day!
I heard wickstead park was very decent last year mind!
Anyhow to cut it short. I dont know whether i shall renew my membership to be honest. Wait and see if things do improve i guess.

Maybe its just a case of novas getting old hand now. Peeps r moving on to other things.Remember one time shows being a sea of novas ect ect.

ahh well

Karl has hit the nail on the head.. Were all here for the same reason, car's, even tho we all like car's for different reasons, and have different taste's...

Even tho i've been a member of PCC for only 2 years, and this year was only my second attendance at an english car show, trax2003. I noticed a big difference in the turnout of Nova's on the PCC stand. I remember many more during last year's event.

But then i know of sooo many Nova's which are under construction at the moment that will be out next year, so lets hope this year was a dip in the road, and next year we'll see both quantity and quality back on all the Nova stands.

I know we'll see Ian S's, Rick D's, Andy B's back out next year, looking as fresh and mint as the day they left the showroom!

I'd also like to say that more and more nova owners should concentrate on keeping there car's a bit better if they intend to show them. Not to point any fingers, but on both PCC and Novaload stand, there seemed to be too many Novas with aftermarket parts added, but rusty door's/arches. I think its more important to sort out the rust before you add kits etc! As i believe a clean nova will turn more heads than a rusty one with a kit!

You may all slag off ford, but i didnt see one ford at trax with any rust or bad paintwork, showing some of us Vauxhall boys up!

Think alot of people share your opinion chris, the club messed it up for them selfs this year. Im stickin with it, i think things will be going back to how they were a few years ago. Smaller, more member oriantated, track days etc.

This years venue was very small compaired to previous years, i expected it to be alot bigger! Plus it didnt help not being a weekend thing. Like i said its more of a social gathering than anything.

I cant talk for the officials of the club, there reasons for certain things that have happended this year. So dont quote me on things that i have said. Its purely my personal opinion.

nova---chris
22-09-03, 10:02 PM
Always 2 sides to an argument!
Anyhow about it being a social show. thats exactly wot alot of these shows are. but as proven in past shows. when it is made possible to be a social show numerous people cannot conrtol thereselves and turn into little kids and feck it up for everyone else.

shame really.!

I'm also sticking with it, i wish it would go back to being just a Nova club, but i cant see that happening as it would be un-fair to the Corsa and Astra members!

I'm a huge Nova fan, always have been since my parents got a new one in 1989... Not sure why i liked them for so long over so many other car's! But i know that i'll be sticking with Nova's as my main interest/hobbie. As the only interest i see in modern car's is to get me from A to B, and i dont see much fun coming from them!

I just hope that as i keep working on nova's there will always be others that i can share my interest with.

you took the words out of my mouth chris. This is one of the main reasons the club is now getting smaller. People havnt had the big national day this year due to the behaviour of certain members. But what can you do?

Its a shame a few individuals allways spoil it for the majority. But guess you get that in alot of clubs.

Anyway, dont want to get into the politics of running a club etc, its not for me to say. Just the issue of individuals slagging people off on web-sites that annoys me. Funny the guys that do, keep there mouths shut when they are at shows and when meeting people face to face.

Like i said before, im not wanting to annoy you guys. i know alot of you and have alot of respect for you. If you do no me i hope you would tell me to my face if i wound you up, i would have the respect to tell you if something was troubling me :)

nova---chris
22-09-03, 10:48 PM
Id quite happily tell me peeps what i think.but is it wortht he trouble!

At the end of the day its one big circle. We have all got to get on to an extent. whether we like or we dont like.
We have choices to. if we want to attend shows and if we dont.

pcc is here to stay by the look of it. so lets just hope they can improve next year. get back to the good old days.!

Ian
22-09-03, 10:59 PM
pcc need to seperate the nova astra and corsa clubs take it back to how it used to be, its become too focused on money making.

prob novaload is a reason im no longer a member of png, i end up running the novaload stand at most shows bar billing and then png are banned which is why i joined mig. i think a lot depends on your regions i know andy bs karls and nicks regions have a good turnout and a lot of nova enthusiasts, seemed as if some of the top people in pcc dont sahre the same enthusiasm

karl Rowntree
22-09-03, 11:00 PM
Thats my arguement chris, is it worth the trouble?

It annoys me why people come out with some of the comments they do on web-sites (i think you have guessed that by now) lol. There really is no need.

Ive never opened my mouth about this before, im the first person to keep my mouth shut normally. But a few people really have touched a nerve with some of there comments.

Guys use your brains before you comment, the one thing ive learnt this past month is that there are more importants things in life ie friends and the people around you for instance.

Im going to shut up now before i sound like the old git that i am!

krobinson
22-09-03, 11:05 PM
I agree with whats been said.. the problem doesnt lay with the organisers, i'm sure the changes they made were all to improve the club, and they just havent worked out!

For the club to survive and return to its former glory, the people turning there back on it need to stop and think. Maybe if they stay with it, attend as many show's as they can, then things will improve!

Lets face it, the more people drop out, the worse things will become, which is why i wont be turning my back on the club. I intend to attend as many shows a possible when i have finished my rebuild. And i have to put in alot more effort than most with the travel, boat costs and accomidation! I hope that others can put some effort in and help to turn the club around!

Keith

without trying to p*** on your bonfire lads. the club should stay like it is. all three together. ok the mag aint as dedicated to an individual car but hey what can we do. the bottom line should be about meeting other bods and having a laugh. the people that turn up the better the atmosphere. i think the venue needs to be changed. a more open area like last year was better.

Why are PNG barred from Billing?

I went to join PNG when I first got my GTE, but thought better of it.

novacabrio
23-09-03, 09:44 AM
I agree with Karl, we are all in it for the cars and the enjoyment that they
bring us.
The png are unable to attend the vboa as the quit before the got thrown out due to members behavior, even thow it wasn't png members,
The national day was not a 2 day event as this causes more trouble when members get a drink in them
Car + Drink = Trouble
Belive it or not this years national day had more cars/members turn up than last year but was in a smaller area and made it look less, other peoples cars didnt get in the show area due to lack of space.
I will remian with the png year after year as the members fee of ?25 is not a great deal of money, regular mag of a high standard etc the lack of content about novas is due to lack of input from members.
Next year will hopefully see a few changes to the club as it is its first full year with a new person running it, watch this space, If you dont like it dont join but let others make there own mind up.

I think the perfect solution would be for the PNG and Novaload to join forces and have a single "Nova" dedicated club! With a PNG/Novaload mag and this website for the club. That way you'd get a lot more of the PNG members using the site and a massive turnout for one single club stand at all the shows. :D
Problem is bridgeing the gap between the two clubs. :(

Just a idea.

Personally, i've been using the best of both clubs at the moment, Novaload for the Internet site and PNG for all the shows and the mag. If we could only link the 2 together...........

wisewood
23-09-03, 11:49 AM
but novaload isnt a club, novaload is a community - if you start making it into something which makes a profit it gets much more complicated and people would lose interest.

half of what makes novaload so popular is the fact that its free to use and a good way to meet up with other people - you dont have to wait for someone to arrange an event or a meet - just find somewhere suitable and arrange it yourself.

This is what SlimJim and co did with the MK meet and now each time they have one it proves to be quite succesful although nothing like a massive club funded event - tis much more intimate (ooo errr) and you get to talk to people more.

Clubs are all good and well but should never be confused/combined with communities such as this one... it just wouldnt work in the same way anymore.
