View Full Version : e16se gm camshaft markings
Im trying to find out what cam markings the gte e16se had.
i know the B item was in the 1.3 and wondered what was in the e16se.
Also id like to know the lobe sizes too standard and then the tolerance if possible.
Isn't there anything useful in Haynes?
Nothing iv seen so far on the 1.6
16sv cams....are they the same?
Anybody left on here with any knowledge anymore?

e16se cams are marked with a D, although some early e16se engines have a cam marked with a B. I don't know if these are the same as the ones in a 1.3
Thanks for that info.according to haynes the b was fitted to a 1.3.upon stripdown i found a B and was thinking it was wrong.
So I will bump this as I have closely inspected the cam whilst rebuilding and its worn badly, uneven in places and squared in areas too.I have a 16sv cam that's in pretty good condition,it appears the lobes are the same size and it looks as though it would fit,but the lobes are different. The original lobes look like a short duration lift whereas the sv cam looks a longer lift.
Has anybody any experience of these in a e16se? how will it affect it power delivery wise?

When you say 'short duration lift' what do you mean?
The cam has a short duration or short lift?
Or the ramp is steep so the duration between closed and open happens quickly?
Yeah the ramp is steep and the nose is sharper.
The sv one is not quite as steep but the nose is rounder

If the lobe is steep its technically a more advanced cam as it opens and reaches max lift sooner which is good for power higher up but you will loose out lower down
If the nose is rounder then the duration is longer, but without knowing the LSA you cant tell what the overlap is.
The bottom line being...you just cant tell by looking at them
Yeah i know.thanks mate.what would you do?
I have two rounds to go and am in a good championship position in third is it worth fitting to see me over the line

Not really. Your car is clearly competitive and consistent, is it really worth fitting something unknown and taking the gamble? I dont think so. Cams need time and effort to set up to get the best out them. Throwing in a random cam and hoping for the best is a risky strategy. You would know where you are better by advancing the std cam a few degrees and resetting the base ign timing.
So a better idea is to fit the original worn cam? Il get pics tmoro.not bothered if i need to change again after two meetings i just want to see it out.
I know exactly what you mean regarding risky. Its out next sunday so im not exactly spoilt for time or choice.i work nights so fri an sat are my build an fit times...
Thanks for your valuable help. Its greatly appreciated.

You havent said how worn it is so its impossible for anyone to judge.
