Hi, I would like some help please in identifying a couple of cams i have in some 1300 parts.

The first cam is marked RO258 perhaps it's a mild 258 cam first pic shows it and the second pic shows the lift, it was on a C14SE head. If its a 258 duration its not for me but im curious as to its make.

The second pic shows the lift

The second cam is an enem what seems to be a Y24 looking at the markings, which came off a ex Bowyer competition 1300 head. i had expected it to be an X17 but im pretty sure its significantly wilder than that. After a lot of searching i found on the enem site this info.

What im trying to do is to work out its Kent equivalent perhaps an AST2, just so i can get a better understanding of its usability on a competition engine in respect of power bands, cos im not too good at Swedish and the Google translate is pretty rubbish.

If you measure the lift it helps many. :)

For a start its a mechanical lifter cam so can only be used with solid lifters.

I found the following info.. 292/107/12.0/2 for the Y24 in a 1600 OHC application.

which would make it a little longer duration than an AST17 and a bit more lift too (but that depends on what they measure duration and lift at)

AST17 is rated at 2800-7500 but reality is that its peak power seems to be around 6.5k. Its what Ive been running in my 1400cc 8v engine.

I think the Enem is rated as a stage 4 on the info I found which has a rev range of 3000-7500 so probably drives quite similarly.

Hi Paul,
Thanks for that info and i forgot to say the 1300 head does have solid lifters. That range on the Y24 suits my application, cams are always a worry to me in that i always think the grass is greener and i end up with a drawer full of race cams, lol.

That YO258 was on hydraulic lifters on the c14se and as i am going to build a second engine, it would be good to know if that was a useable cam, whilst mating it on an x14xe block and internals.

If your interested, my complete 1400 8v engine will be for sale shortly..

1400 bottom end, balanced crank, std rods and pistons, decked block
1300 big valve head, AST17 cam, solid lifters and valve springs to suit
Twin 40s on Manifold to suit head, dizzy, coil etc, Ashley exhaust manfold (for Astra Mk2)

Had good results with it. Needs a refresh now but just won our class (and beat all the 1600s) on the Flying Fortress Stages in June.

Hi Paul, let me know the cost. What size are the valves and what works been done on the head and i presume its cathedral ports ?But, TBH i would just prefer a set of solid lifters :thumb:

Anyway, i have found out the first cam, dont know why it didnt come up on my googling before but its an Enem X17 cam with a 298 duration, so i may use that in my c14se, unless there are some purists out there who might tempt me as it looks like i have a few original Nova sport bits, as the twin 40's have the irmscher 1300 inlet and original webers.
