Just wondering on people's current opinions on what box to run with a c20let in a nova?
think I'll be running somewhere between 280-330bhp and wanted to use an f20 with a quaife lsd
is it worth the extra hassle to go to an f28? Also what's the first thing to fail in the f20 usually?
Cheers

Iam using a f20 been fine on phase 2 for two years that its been in. F28 are hard to come by and alot more hassle/ weight.
No no no.
I wouldn't bother.
You're adding 60kg of weight, you can't get bits for them, you have to weld a new mount on, 6th reves the same as 5th on the motorway at 75mph.
Just not worth it.
If i have a single prob again with mine i'm binning it and going back to a F20 with a wide ratio 5th in it.

Cool, I wanted to stay f20 but people keep saying I'll destroy them. Wondered what the weak points were in them?
Think I'll continue with f20 and hopefully fit an lsd of some sort too then.
Gears and cogs in them can get mashed up. But i've known let track/drag cars that break F28 yet run a F20 for years.

lol Everyone's different when it comes to the choice between F20 & F28. Though if it was me, I would plump every time for a freshly rebuilt F28 with Quaife LSD for the simple reason that once done right, and driven within reasonable limits, they are the best of both worlds when coupled with the right clutch kit (such as an exclusive dual friction carbon kevlar clutch kit from Regal's Motorsport). But that is just me and my humble opinion. Really is just a case of personal preference and/or the willingness to go the extra step, which when fitting the F28 does require.

If you thinking of it that way, a good rebuilt F20 with a Quaife is done right too.
I use a F28, i can't see the best of both at all. I use a "uprated" clutch. But on my old F20 i used a £35 re-man clutch for 4 year with out a single prob. Inc track days.

Think I'm going to use an f20 at least their cheaper if it gets destroyed. If it's a constant problem I might even fit straight cut gearing.

I'm sticking with my f20 after Benns advice on a previous thread, rebuilding it over the winter with a longer 5th and a diff.

Where would I get a longer fifth gear from? An aftermarket item or another Vauxhall box? Nearly ready to drop the motor in now :)
Iirc you use one from a WR F18 or F20. Cavs have them.

Been doing some digging, going to use a fifth gear from an f18wr and some sort of lsd :)

A freind of mine was running about 300bhp in his let cav with a standard f16 box and that held up very well never died
