This is the tread for my recent purchase of my Nova SR (1985) that I had purchased from Richard.

As this car is so mint, my main objectives are to keep it that way and just do the few jobs that are outstanding.

If you look in the quick reply box where you write your reply there is a tool bar above it with icons. The box to the right with the five icons is the one you need, click the one in the middle that looks like a picture and then post your link in the pop up box.

personally I think the front end, looks great as it is, without fog lamps - sorry

do you have to cut it or make holes in it? I have always worried about how will it look if you take them off and have big holes etc. bit like speakers in door cards and parcel shelves..

Me :)

nova J877
30-07-15, 11:17 PM
I know what you mean, the task does feel scary as when you have a mint bumper, to cut holes in does worry me, but these are a legitimate optional extra so I feel it would enhance the car, not like butchering a parcel shelf or door cards as that was never done in the factory.
The best scenario would be to have 2 bumpers so you can choose what looks best. All the early SR's I have seen look great with them on, as long as they are done perfectly.
I still have time to decide as I am still trying to source the passanger side surround.

nova J877

The headlight protectors were bought off another member on here, although there was a set that was being sold on ebay, but the listing has since ended

Very nice.

Just needs an early non swage line rear bumper IMO.

EwanG
04-09-15, 09:03 PM
Please don't fit the fogs! You will regret it if you don't have a spare snowplough if you want to go standard again! I suggest you do a poll to help

nova J877
05-09-15, 11:10 AM
But the fogs are standard, they were a genuine optional extra, I was considering finding another plough to put the lights in then at least I will have a choice

therealnovaboy
05-09-15, 11:36 AM
Are those the right rear seats. reason I ask is it has the buttons to hold the rear seat belt plugs. maybe you have rear seat belts?

I didn't think the seats had buttons if they don't have seat belts. I just thought of this as I don't remember them being on my A reg sr. it might have them but never noticed.

nova J877
05-09-15, 11:45 AM
My car doesn't have seatbelts, maybe they put the buttons on the seats incase the owner wanted to have seatbelts fitted as I believe they were an optional extra back then

Royston
05-09-15, 07:26 PM
My white B reg SR had the pips on the rear seats, and wasn't fitted with rear seatbelts when new, but are fitted now.

Your SR is superb, I would personally think twice before fitting front fog lights, as I don't like them, but its your car!!

nova J877
06-09-15, 04:36 PM
Not many people are liking the hella snow plough fog lights, I thought they looked nice with them, I have a lot of time to consider I suppose as trying to source the final surround is proving difficult to say the least.

Southie
06-09-15, 07:44 PM
I've always liked the optional extra of the spot light, always wanted a set myself... I say fit them.

nova J877
08-09-15, 06:17 PM
I definately want them on the car, I think it'll look excellent, been wanting them for ages

nova J877
11-09-15, 01:17 PM
Think im gonna have to ditch the fog light idea, nice to dream I suppose, I always wanted one with them in. Guess im lucky enough to have the car. I'll sling the lights in the loft and put that idea to bed.

Maybe, I doubt it though. Makes me feel to jack it all in a buy a newer car that I can actually get bits for. Maybe Nova's are just to old to enjoy now

Edd

Surely how stunning yours is you can just about manage to enjoy it

Not exactly the end of the world you can't find the part right now tho

As Rich says it will turn up, been there and it will

Maybe, I doubt it though. Makes me feel to jack it all in a buy a newer car that I can actually get bits for. Maybe Nova's are just to old to enjoy now

Iv been saying this for years lol Unless you have alot of disposable income/no responsibilities theyre not a cheap car to enjoy anymore.Parts are either impossible to find and or ridiculous money for 9/10 utter scrap.
that said it is a nice example you have there

nova J877
11-09-15, 06:22 PM
Thanks for your comments, it is a amazing example and its not about the money mate, I have paid well over the odds for most parts its just there isnt the opportunity to buy the parts, im just sick of fighting over bits or having to basically beg for them, I have sold my GSi and at this rate the SR will go the same way for something I can just go the dealer and buy what I need.

nova J877
13-09-15, 08:50 PM

Lovely car this.

Have you found the surround you were after for the fogs?
Were the fog light switches green lamp for the fronts yellow for the rears? I've been looking for both the front fog and heated seat switches just to fill mine up with out the blanks. Where did you find your one?

nova J877

I never found the surround yet mate, I know a couple of people have them but they wont sell them as they might be using them in the future at some point. The green light switch I bought from German ebay, these bits do come up now and again mate.

My latest purchase for the SR, a brand new pair of gutter trims as mine were not present, although the car looked ok without them, I was always wanting to find a pair to complete the genuine look. If I get time I might get them on the car tomorrow. Heres a picture of them as they are.

Great news, after the longest wait and I think the biggest hunt where I have invested so much time and effort I can finally say that, with a great amount of help from my friend in Germany I have the very rare and sought after fog light trims. Now I have all of the associated parts to complete my genuine Hella fog light upgrade. I never thought finding parts was this tricky, but the feeling you get when you finally get them in your hands is wicked.

nova J877
11-01-16, 09:30 PM
Thanks mate, that part does seem the most scary, like you say there is the outline on the rear of the plough so it will help, the key I expect is to go slow bit by bit. Im very fussy so I hope it turns out perfect. I do have a spare plough aswell.

Good attention to detail, I never knew there was an accelerator trim!

I'm sure a professional bodyshop would be in a good position to fit your fog surrounds. They do look awesome with fogs in.

nova J877
12-01-16, 03:06 PM
Thanks, im getting mixed opinions on the fogs, I wouldn't add them if they weren't an optional extra as I want this car to be near to factory spec. I think they look nice with fogs and not many people have them so wanted to be a bit more individual. They did come with accelerator pedal trim but it seems not many have them anymore, I don't know why though.

Very clean car, well done on finding another fog surround, after you bought the single one from me I wasn't sure if you'd ever find the other. At the time I tried a guy I know in Germany for you who is very good at finding parts and even he drew a blank.

nova J877
22-01-16, 10:36 PM
Thanks, I thought several times that I wouldn't find the trims and many times had drew a blank, after months of enquiries and perseverence a contact in Germany had found them. He had to do a deal with a rare part that he had to persuade him to sell them. Bits are still out there but arn't easy to get now. Most of my parts come from Germany.

Just a short update on the recent developments with the SR, it now has the correct rear bumper on, I also had the ball joints replaced as these were looking a bit old. The only problem, after removing the interior rear grab handles as mine were broken, I was about to install the new ones and then I discovered after opening the packet that the new ones are the grey handles where as mine are the more 'whiter' ones. This is the last job that needs doing so I will have to find the correct pair to complete this job.

Latest update, just managed to find a new set of dowels for the rear grab handles, shouldn't be long before they are back in place.

This is the best SR in my eyes and I can't see anything beating it in it standard form, I know you bought a fantastic car originally but love the personal touches you've done to it ;)

Thanks lads, I'm just trying to make it as original as possible with most of the available options, it's nice to get appreciation for the efforts. I know it would be so hard trying to find another early one that is so original. As I know finding parts is such a hard effort. I'm nearly there now.
I can't wait for the summer so I can enjoy it a bit.

Finally after a proper long search I have got a pair of rear grab handles. These are so hard to find as the early ones are cream. Plus they are so fragile. I have finally found all the bits that my car was needing. I will post a pic when I fit them.

So today's jobs, a bit of cleaning and finished off the servicing as I was given the wrong oil filter, now on and fresh oil is in. Also replaced the broken bonnet stay rubber mount.

Today I have replaced the 'ignition warning' sticker next to the coil and I had replaced the 3 screws in the drivers side wing mirror as they were wrong. I also have received my genuine GM first aid kit, just a nice addition.
