So what oil should I use, but not what brand but what type Mineral oil, Semi Synthetic or Full Synthetic engine oil ?
BUT please do not forget I'm running a 1.4 8 valve using hydraulic lifters at 7000 rpm and round 120 bhp rally car engine, so all ways at the high end of the rev's.
We are only talk about good high end oil's.
Thanks.

When i was running hard, had the knocking noise, tried with many oils, and no one was better. Now i have solid lifters, run between 4500-7500, and has no noises from the head. :)

How much did your solid lifter set up cost Tomiboy ?.

In my old 1.4sr which I had extensive work on a rebuild with a bike carb conversion which revved up to 7500 regularly and I use to run milners semi synthetic 10/40 if that's any help to you.

Kent AST18 cam with VS45 double spring, followers and solid lifters togeather was 206 from ebay. I was lucky. :)
But the solid lifters are not so big things, i can send you drawings, it can be done on turning machines, than heat treating, and polishing.

Is Semi synthetic not to thin for the hydraulic lifters Southie ?
Tomiboy I cut grass for a living Tunring machines and heat treating is a bit over me but polishing I can do :)

I found it fine, I use to change my oil every 2000k with that engine though as I drove it very hard. I spent the best part of £2000 on it so I was always checking the oil if it was clean and needed topping up.

As said it was a 10/40 oil so was fine for road use, not sure for you maybe as you are probably wanting it for rallying which would be plenty of high revving for short runs.
